Hi to all. After almost two years without any problem with the car, the A/C compressor seized. Well, that was about to happen anyway. It looks like I've got a leak in a pipe and the refrigerant got away. I've disconnected the clutch electromagnet connector and for now I'm fine - the pulley did not get stuck at the moment. But unfortunatelly it is slowly getting stuck, probably based on the previous heat the stuck clutch made. My luck was that the compressor run in the stuck mode only for a ten seconds or so, so I cut the engine and the drive belt did not rip itself - but the compressor front plate got all red and white at most parts... quite a scary look it was at the moment. Anyway - before I can get hands on any used compressor here in Czech, I would like to put a new, shorter drive belt there. I belive there were two versions of the 2.0i 16V engine sold, one with and one without the A/C. I want to run the car without the compressor connected. Can anyone point me to the ford part number of the shorter belt, for GFR '95 2.0i 16V with not A/C. And can I keep the strainer pulley I originally have there for the A/C version? Most importantly, can you guys tell me how long (in milimeters) should the NON A/C drive belt be - this will help me to look in an aftermarket area for it. Thanks in advance

Thanks for the link. Seems I do need the finis 731 608. Can anyone tell me the length of this belt ? I do not have an access to the Ford database or so... And google does not provide any relevent results for this. One more question: Without an AC pump, the 16V may have an idler pulley mounted instead. Can anyone shed more light at this topic? The use of the word "may" is confusing me. Does that state that I can't just simply replace the drivebelt with a shorter one (and bypass the compressor then) but will have to replace the compressor with some kind of an idle pulley ?

Mine does not have A/C, also does not have idler pulley, I just got a new belt fitted recently, it was: Auxilliary Drive Belt Part Number: 7310608 ("Motorcraft" on card packaging) from www.fordpartsuk.com (Trevor Porter) I still have old one for spare and have just measured it, if stretched as far as it will go measures 85 cm 'loop' to 'loop'. I make that about 180 - 190 cm circumference (?)

| It means the AC compressor can be replaced with an idler pulley and therefore retain your original belt. using the shorter belt would seem to be the better option though as an idler pulley and bracket is going to cost you more than a belt I would imagine

Yes I definitelly want to use only the shorter belt, so I can keep the compressor in place - it will get replaced when I get a new one, and I do not want to have open pipes during the meantime. I've just bought the type 6PK1650 type, that is 1650 mm of length. This is the length stated in one of the after market suppliers for N3A engine I do have. So it seems to be close to the 180 cm circum. length reffered in one of the previous posts. Unfortunatelly all local aftermarket suppliers do not follow the typical Ford naming of parts Also, I have found two different catalogs, and one states the 1650 mm length ("SR" vendor) while the other shows the 1750 mm (Bosch catalog). Both those lengths are available to buy. If the 1650 mm won't fit, I will go and but the 1750 mm. I will try to install it later today, and will report the result.

hi Adam, Did a search of previous threads and it appears the DOHC belts are : 1900mm with AC 1755mm without AC ***EDIT*** Not 100% on these figures, there appears to be differences between manuals and autos too. First, thanks to all. Ok, here are my results from todays try: '95 GFR DOHC N3A 2.0i 16V with A/C. Note: 6 ribs on the belt. Trying to bypass the compressor -> to have a no A/C version (for a while, before I get the new comp.). 1650 mm - definitelly no go - too short. Note to self: do not belive local dealers catalog. 1750 mm - should fit. But it does NOT. About 50 mm short (this with the master tensioner on its limit position). 1800 mm - I'm going to try this length tomorrow. Well, scratching my head now. It looks like the non-A/C version has a different master tensioner than the A/C version. . . or not ? I managed to pull that thing down almost to touch the crank pulley (was not touching, but it was pretty close). I just can not get the 1750 belt over the alternator pulley, it was just soooo close but yet short. FYI when I put back the original belt, it all went there almost with my eyes closed.

Ok, I finally got it done. The 1800 mm was too long, though. So I went and bought 1755 mm and it fits PERFECTLY. A short recap: 1650 - short 1750 - short 1800 - long (was somehow working, not slipping, but definitelly not tensioned at all) 1755 - just perfect ! (type 6PK1755) Note: I was definitelly unable to put 1750 mm there. Just no way how this could be done on my car. The 1755 is perfect here. I left the compressor in place, its pulley does not go into conflict with the short belt. I routed the belt the very same way it was on the original A/C version, the only difference here is that I missed the compressor pulley - so the belt goes right between the crank pulley and water pump. It is too bad that all the after-market catalogs do have a wrong length written there. Even the official Bosch catalog is wrong. And about the original (A/C version) belt - I do not know how long this one is, there is no text on it anymore. But I do guess it is about 1900 mm long. Ok, one more thanks to you all, it did help me somehow, minimally with the feeling this mod was possible. a.

I had the same problem, I used a transit 2.3 non ac belt, fitted perfectly
