24v 98 facelift keeps stalling!!!

Hi all, I seem to be having a problem at the moment with the car stalling. I can start the car and it runs but it tends to want to rock backwards and forwards when cold and the dashboard lights go bright and then dim and then bright again. Today it started to get worse, I was driving on the M25 at about 65-70 and it seemed to lack power it was if someone was holding it back. But when I accelerated it went ok. I came off the motorway to the junction and as I slowed down the rev needle went down to 0 but the car was still running and as soon as I came to a stop the car stalled. At every junction this was happening and on the road while accelerating or cruising it was if something was holding it back. I got home and plugged an OBD2 u380 to read any codes and these came up: P0443, P1409, and P1132. Does anyone know what these are or give me any ideas of what to look for. Thanks in advance Michael

Thanks Simmo, Do you think these could be one problem like wiring loom or another problem giving these fault codes? Kind Regards Michael

| Nope - amazingly enough it sounds like the EGR circuit is faulty. Have a nosey @ http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/egr.htm

Does doesn't it? However "dashboard lights go bright and dim" and rev counter problem doesn't seem to have anything to do with that so you could still have bad wiring issues. (?) To quote PJDavis, the older the cars become the worse the wiring problems get. PS: what dashboard lights were these exactly? Not warning lights, if you were driving?

Possable a alternator fault, if a diode has gone, may be putting out a bit of ac, but I would expect the battery to go flat.

Hi all, Thanks for the replys. I have just got back from a few days away (in the wifes car). Mike H if the car is ticking over on idle and you have the lights on the dashboard dims and goes back to normal. a900one I do about 90 miles a day in the car so it might be charging the battery enough to mstart it etc. I did think it could be air getting in somewhere like a pipe split. I will try and have a look in the week. Thanks again Michael

Well the warning lights are dimmed when lights are on, that's normal, but shouldn't affect those which illuminate the dials, if that's what you mean. If so suggests wiring problem. You're not getting dashboard reset though? I did once get similar effect while driving with a lot of early morning condensation in the car, dashboard lights going dim, my topic 'Leccy Gremlins Alert'
