Can anyone help? I nearly lost all coolant(and the engine!) with a leaking water pump_second in 4 years and only 20 months old! Point is the low coolant level warning light didn't ! Took the header tank off washed it out light on but goes off as soon as I put the sensor back in the tank even though empty-anybody met this before? 24v

Glyn, It sounds like the float that surrounds the sensor is stuck at the high point. possibly when you have taken it off, it has got stuck while you were washing it. Take off the tank again and try and shake the float loose. It works as follows. The sensor is securely fixed into a tube, fitted into the base of the tank and does not move. Inside the tank (surrounding the tube that holds the sensor) is a floating magnet type thing. When the fluid level is correct, the float is sat higher than the sensor and makes no connection. when the fluid level drops, the float drops and causes a contact to make and illuminates the light! Mine must be very sensitive then, the warning light comes on when the coolant level is just 20mm below the max line.
