Had my rear bumper ruined by tow bar fitter! YES I'm still grumbling about that.

Useful thing to have, though. You can reverse with confidence....

PJ,

please remember that if your car is registered after 1st August 1998 (S Reg onwards) you need to fit a "type approved" towbar. Any car registered before doesn't need to be "type approved"

Failure to fit the type approved type on an August onwards car will invalidate your insurance in the event of an accident

As far as I remember, the only type approved towbar for the Scorpio is the one made by Binks (I had one on my S Reg) and it is a removeable towbar type. Most manufacturers did not bother to go to the expense of type approving their bars because the Scorpio was already out of production by August 1998.... hence the reason why the Binks bars are so expensive and hard to find

Baz.
Presumably you refer to an accident involving the tow bar as against running into the back of another vehicle or being hit in the side by an inept youth ?  Wink

Well well Baz.   I didn't know that.   My car is registered on the 1st of August 1998!!!   It's a pre-facelift June 1997 car 'S' reg.   I got the bar from Tow-Equip, and it has a 'type-approved' thingy with it although I didn't know what that meant.   It wasn't so easy to fit, wee mods' to get it on properly, but I was really pleased to see absolutely no rust around the rear behind the bumper.   The bumper came off easy and back on easy too.   I also did my rear discs and pads today, new set of mintex on.   Easy at work on the ramp.
