When the dials do that it usually means low voltage.
Use an 'Optimate' to keep your battery in good condition when the car is not in use - either on or off the car. Cost about £30 - well worth it.  Wink

I have an old Beardmore taxicab which doesn't get much use in the winter,it has a large battery with good balanced electrolyte readings, however the plates were unable to pass leccy and the battery appeared flat.I gave it a good boiling with a big charger and it is now reconstituted to working order. As Mike says, they need to be regularly charged to keep them on song.

Apart from the above replies, the instrument cluster needles will always flick round (reset) when you first turn on the ignition after the cluster has been disconnected.
