sooted plugs plus surging thottle

hi ive finally change my camshaft cover gaskets as oil was weeping down the plugs when i remove spark plugs they were sooted up .i also fitted new ht leads and plugs. any ideas. also when i release thottle engie hunts slitly then settles normal no misfire from engine.ive cleaned thottle chamber.plus replace one of the small tube air pipe going to the inlet manifold which was suspect car is 2.3 ultima cheers guys geoff

thanks for apromp anwer simmo will try cleaning .i did fit a new maf 5months ago /what woud cause thefouling of the plugs is there any adjustment for mixture cheers.

There are various things that could cause this (such as reported engine temp remaining low) so a scan for codes may be useful. There's no adjustment for mixture. The oxygen sensor in conjuction with other sensors should keep the mixture right, an air leak on the exhaust side before the oxygen sensor can fool it into reporting a weak mixture with the result the engine management richens the mixture. Make sure all vacuum pipes are secure at both ends even if you didn't disconnect them - they can easily get disturbed or even split whilst working on the engine.
