Rear Shock Absorbers Ultima Estate

I have to replace the rear offside shock absorber on my Ultima 2.3 Estate. The garage tells me the shocks on the rear at present are not self levelling. Is this the case? I also understand that Mercedes 123 series rear shocks will fit the Ultima. Grateful any advice.

The original equipment shocks are self levelling, very expensive, IF you can get them. There is a wealth of information in How to do Things Here. IF your shocks are the same as those original ones in the pictures they will NOT come out without lowering the suspension due to their size. I recently replaced both of mine, due to wear in the bushes, the usual cause, with the Monroe R3410 for the Sierra. Not self levelling but perfectly good and I have noticed no difference apart from a more comfortable ride!.
