Hi I have a Scorpio 2.3 saloon, I'm having issues with the back end suspension on the near side. The car has been feeling a bit loose whilst driving along, so the other day I jacked it up and could see that the spring nor the shock absorber had broken, but the part inside the spring had broken in half. Just wanted to if anyone knew the name of this part also if anyone has a car breaking with a replacement component. Any help would be great kind regards Ashley..

the bit that's broken, does it look any of these like these? If so that's just a bump stop and shouldn't affect handling in any way. It's function is to stop metal to metal contact if you ever hit a bump hard enough to compress the suspension fully.

Lots of weight in the back and speed bumps and you will compress the suspension enough to create that metal to metal contact. I found mine were as yours probably are and replaced them just to stop the excess.

Can't say I noticed any difference when I replaced mine, however they aren't the bump stops - that is to one side of the springs. Update, just checked on my order they do call it a bump stop but as mentioned there is a more conventional rubber one to the side of the spring. Jan 2007 (fordparsuk.com) Scorpio 95, (+)"GB", DOHC 2.3 (145PS),4 Door Saloon, RHD -Rear Suspension Bump Stops From: 15-10-1994 To: 15-07-1998 Part Number: 7264097(QTY2) Retail Price: £13.34each You Pay: £11.34each exc VAT

Yeah, on the Scorpio you have three bump stops per side, one in the center of the spring (as per my pic earlier), one on the chassis and one on the wishbone - i.e. where that would make contact with the other chassis bumb stop. Often, the bump stop on the wishbone dissapears pretty quickly and is rarely refitted. It's just bonded to the wishbone and the bonding degrades rapidly. I'd be suprised if anyone has a car that still has the wishbone bump stop fitted. Scorpio has a similar set up to this (obviously Scorp has seperate spring and damper):-

| The answer is in How to do things Here. You need to post your photos to a host site and then transfer them.

| With photobucket you need to change the IMG at each end of your photo link to lower case img That's the part I gave the part no of & should be somewhat longer & pushed onto the ball at the top.

That doesn't look like it's broke in half. It's as Amigafan2003 say's. The bonding has deteriorated and the centre hole has got bigger and it's dropped off.
