Front wheel problem

My scorpio has been in Norway since december and has been great, starting 1st time even at minus 15C. I put a set of wheels on with studded tyres which I got from a scorpio being scrapped. Today started to put back the normal 12 spoke wheels on as I need to bring it back home for its mot. I have changed 3 of the wheels over with no probloems but the front drivers side one wont come off. It wont budge, the wheel spins freely when the car is jacked up. the nuts come off ok and the studs look fine. It was minus 16c yesterday and I am hoping its just frozen on. Would anything else make the wheel stick? The car drives fine.
Thanks
Tony

They can stick with corrosion. If you slacken the wheel nuts a turn or so before jacking it up the weight of the car will usually break the corrosion. Sometimes you also need to give the wheel a shake with the nuts loose before jacking it up.

IF Tompion's tips don't work another method is to slacken the wheel nuts half a turn and then drive the car round in a circle if possible. The weight and 'forces' acting on the wheel usually are enough to break the seal. I guess they are alloy wheels and when refitting them,or indeed others, you need to coat the hub with coppaslip grease to prevent the reaction between the hub and the alloy wheel.  Smiley

I'd still use the grease though. I do on mine and never had a problem. Smiley

I slackend the wheel nuts a turn and then turned the streering wheel fully to the right and then to the left, there was a ping and the seal broke. jacked the car up and the wheel came off without any problem. I arrived back in the uk with the car today.
many thanks for your help Smiley
