I suppose it had to happen some day. Failed MOT on emmissions. Cat not working. Local garage has ordered a cat but telephone call this morning said doubts about the quality, however it has got a 2 yr guarantee.
He said if it was his car he would fit it as the age of the car doesn't warrant paying Ford parts cost.
I do not know what the bill is going to be! But I need a car and what would I pay to get a car with the comfort of my Scorpio.

Any car up to 2001 (I think) doesn't need an 'approved-cat' because up to that date the emissions aren't that critically tested.   I put the cheapest replacement cat I could on my 2.3 very recently costing £75.   It passed the MOT no-problems.   Watch out for the bracket on the replacement cat being in the wrong place, Dave had to grind the bracket off and re-weld it in the right place.   Also wrap a rag soaked in WD40 around the Lambda-Sensor overnight for ease of removal.   The only problem I found apart from bracket on the cat was the fact that the square lug that bolts onto the exhaust manifold wasn't in the centre of downpipe!    This looked as if it could be restricting the gas flow so I ground all the rough interior edges down to make sure the exhaust gases had no interruption.

Anything registered after Jan 1st 2001 MUST have a Type Approved Catalytic Converter :

Another reason not to buy anything registered after that date... Wink
