hi we are having a problem with our 2.3 estate it started this morning ok but it turned over slower than usual. 10 minutes later tried to start it again, the dash lights come on but when you turn the key there is nothing, no clicking even . have charged the battery. it is as though the immobiliser is still active. have tried different keys and checked the fuses. also when you turn the key there is no 2 second sound of the petrol pump as is normal. we have never set the alarm or locked the doors for years anyone any ideas please diane

I still think it's the battery. When you say it's ok, what tests have you done to confirm that?

Hi, It's sounding like a battery problem to me too. Firstly I'd make sure the battery checks out, far easier than removing stuff like starter. Besides, if the fuel pump isn't running then there's a fault somewhere other than the starter motor anyway. Firstly, what's the battery voltage with the ignition off and what is it when you switch the ignition on? Anything below 11.5v indicates a problem. Are the battery cables clean and secure? What does the dashboard say the battery voltage is? (you can get the dashboard LCD to display battery voltage - info on the website). Does this differ from the voltage you measured at the battery terminals? A tired/discharged battery OR a bad power or earth connection will drop voltage when you try and pull current from it, that's the only electrical issue that could make the car crank slower as well - PATS or immobiliser issue wouldn't do that. Otherwise, I'm thinking it's a fusebox/power distribution issue, or a bad connection in one of the fuseboxes - something's either not getting enough voltage to work or it's not switching on at all.

Is it an autobox ? might it be the inhibitor in the range switch on the side of the box,or wiring thereto ?
