Coolant problem

I am in Norway with my 2.0 16v, it’s been very hot today 28c. I had been out on a short run of 7 miles when the low coolant lamp came on about a mile from the house. The temp was normal.
When I stopped and turned the engine off lots of coolant spat out of the header tank overflow pipe.
The coolant level was then below min. can anyone please advise me what may have been the cause and what I should do ?
Many thanks in advance

Hi there

How is the water colour? And what about the oil? Have you checked the cap?

Thanks for the reply.
The place I am staying is on a hill so the coolant is tipped towards the front of the header tank so its hard to see the colour  and there is not much in it. I may be able to srynge some out tomorrow.
Oil and coolant cap appear ok. Oil level looks above min but hard to tell being on a hill. oil was changed last month.

I would be suspicious of a head gasket problem and get a compression test done asap.

Does it misfire on start up?. That is a sign that water is getting on to the top of the piston and thus wetting the plug before the heat dissipates it. As Scorpio Mike says points to the head gasket failing.  Sad

Just got a local guy to have a look and there is a hole in the side of the radiator. This hole is 2 cm away from the end of the expansion tank overflow pipe, that why I thought it came from there.
The guy can fit a new radiator for me so i will bring one over from England. My next questions where is the best place to get one ? Its a 2.0 16v car.
Thanks
Tony
