Rear wheel bearing - URGENT
« on: Oct 6th, 2014, 8:43am »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

Hi - am in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia with the Limo and have had a rear bearing failure. Spent some time trying to find a replacement here. Does anyone know the Ford part numbers and/or the actual bearing and seal numbers as I may need to get them shipped over which could take some time. Bearings are not recognisable as too far damaged so cant get info off them

Many thanks

Rob.
That's a bloody nuisance, fairly common though.I fear the hub and carrier may be scored by the loose bearings and need replacement.I never bought bearings from Ford due to inflated prices, the kits I used were produced by  BRT,Ball Roller and Transmission Bearings Ltd,the box contains both bearings, seals and nut for one side, number PWK0136.The hub Ford 6156880,I never bought a new carrier but always sourced a good used one so don't know the number. If you DO need a carrier the limo has Cosworth brakes which means that the caliper lugs are longer,a standard one will fit onto the car,but obviously you could not fit the brakes.I will look for old bearings to retrieve the numbers if possible, come back if you need these.
            Good luck

having a kit sent over - Bearing is common type used in many applications but finding one over here is proving too difficult - in the meantime I have the SKF number BT1B328053 and am trying to see if there is a Chinese company here who may have a copy in stock as its likely to take at least 1 week to get something over from the UK

Sorry to hear of your wheel bearing problems Rob - I've experienced the same problem.
Assume you have checked the bearing carrier etc... for any damage Huh

From my experience the sierra rear hub is the same as the 12v if you need the carrier as well.
My write up of the rear wheel bearing is http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/rhubs.htm

Do hope you get it all fixed as I am following your progress with the greatest interest.

Correct - as long as from a Sierra with rear disc brakes  Wink
Having owned and worked on Sierras for the last 20+ years I am somewhat familiar with these parts !
Also dead easy to convert a Sierra to accept 5-std wheels with Mk3 Granada bits   Grin

Bearing carrier is OK(ish) and should do the job - today found a wheel bearing shop here  Grin - but no Bearings to fit  - they are going to try and get some shipped over from SKF in Singapore tomorrow. It will all get sorted in the end but just take a bit of time - living in Laos one word I have learn´t is patience  Smiley

Rob.
I stripped out an old hub carrier, you are quite right on the numbers, mine is :- GERMANY W23P SKF BT1B 328053-Q.
The old English saying,(with a twist) patience is a virtue, possess it if you can, seldom found in woman, but always found in man !!
As the bearings are pre spaced in the carrier, the torque setting is 200 lb/ft,ie they cannot be over tightened, but severe treatment could result in a fractured stub axle.

Cheers GOZZ - I was thinking the problem may have occured when the guys replacing the springs may have over-tightened the big nut as they were initially trying to remove the half shaft until I stopped them! The bearing seal was bad though and I suspect when we went through the sand in the Gobi desert (upto the axles) some may have got in and done the damage.

Rob Just make sure that they use lock tight stuff on the threads of the retaining nut especially on the NEARSIDE one as they are not " handed" on the scorpio. as I found out to my dismay that they can loose off 200 FT/LBS is suggested torque.
