95 Cosworth wont start

Was running an errand today and the car started up normally and ran perfect till I got to my destination. Switched of the engine ran my errand, (2minutes) jumped in turn the key and engine turns over but doesn't fire, not even an hiccup just turns over. Battery is good, no suspicious lights on the dashboard. I have noticed the last couple of days a low speed/idle miss just like in the old days when you had doggy ignition leads or a bad distributor cap.

Check the condition of the wiring loom which goes to the coil packs and injectors - the insulation breaks down and can cause poor running & misfires.

I will do that for sure since I noticed yesterday when checking the connection to the coil pack that at least one of the wires leading in to the coil pack had a crak in the insulation were it bends and goes in to the coil pack. Is rewiring that specific loom a big job or is it within reach of the average DIY person?

Was the Cossie engine cover in place? My Cossie Estate just cut out and would not re-start. Removing the Engine cover and no more problems. I keep the covers off my 2 Cossies now and no more problems. The cover, over the years, get a covering of Carbon and as that part of the cover just about touches the wires on top of the Multiplug there is "tracking" which causes a dead short. If you look under the relevant part of the Engine Cover you will probably see the tracking, it looks as though somebody has drawn a line with a lead pencil, Good luck Mike

I'd deffinately be having a good push, pull and a squeeze of all the coil/injector wiring in that case. Try and start it after each "movement" of the wiring.

Had it trailered to a friend of mine that has been working at a Ford main dealer for some twenty years+. He let it sit in a warm and dry garage for a couple of days and it started right up... The only bother he could find was that the alternator was sometime overcharging and some time undercharging. No fault codes or anything, it probably just needed a rest...

How about check this? on May 15th, 2014, 4:56pm, victor. wrote:Hi, I finally solve the problem. I use sandpaper to sanding all connectors of (-) end of battery. The black CuO was cleaned. Then, there is no starting problem anymore. I think one of (-) line from battery concern the problem. Maybe one (-) line direct connect from battery to PATS. Now, Scorpio 2.3 starts easily every time. Thank you for all replies. |
