Tailgate rubber

Hi Guys, the rubber that surrounds the glass on my estate tailgate has deformed. It is possibly due to the respray I did but it is a bit of a delayed reaction! I resprayed it months ago. It is very loose in places. Or it may just be due to the recent weather changes, cold at night/ sun in the day?? Clutching at straws. Doesn't really matter why I suppose. I need to replace it.

At the time I resprayed it, I did look at removing the rubber, but it didn't look like it came off easily so I just masked it off.

Anyway, does anyone know if it will come off, what the secret is and is it DIY replaceable or is it an auto glass job?? Is this rubber still available?
Thanks,
Graham

I seem to remember that I used to get this on the boot side windows of my estate, but only in the coldest of winter temperatures  Smiley

Thanks JC, it looks horrible. Does it serve any purpose? Could I just trim it off and put some silicon sealant in to fill the gap? The seal between glass and the steel I imagine is bonded so should still be intact and watertight I guess? I was a bit peed off when I saw it  Sad

Thanks Simmo. The glass is bonded so I presume the rubber is sandwiched in their somewhere. I will trim the old rubber and stick it back on with sikaflex or the like for now. Easiest solution would be another tailgate I guess. Medium Charcoal Green. Anyone?  Grin

Thanks for the offer, I think I'll just tidy up the rubber. If I came across a really good one in the right colour, at the right price  Wink  I might, but I dont really want to spray another...    Grin

Well, looked at this again the other day and it has reformed itself! The deformation has disappeared!! However it was still hanging off (ok, a little loose) in places so have stuck it down with sikaflex. It looks ok, just hope it behaves itself now!!
