Dashboard Control Light

hello chaps, been very quiet on the motoring front, the car behaving itself, until now. time to lubricate the brain cells. the little red LED appears to have a mind of its own illuminating itself willy nilly even when the alarm is off. could it be the sign of a failing battery (which is now conveniently out of warranty !), the alternator chucking the volts out OK. or is it more sinister ? anyone had a similar experience ? thanks in anticipation

Have a read of This page. The light as you say is related to the PATS (Passive Anti Theft System) and will flash a code to indicate what the issue might be.  Smiley

the problem eventually sorted itself out on its own. one year on the old battery has given up the ghost and after fitting a new battery this weekend the old red led is glowing again, permanently. engine starts and car drives ok. any thoughts of wisdom ? thank you.

"red led is glowing again, permanently".

I had this happen to me and for a few days I was puzzled. Then I went around my Scorp, opening and shutting everything that opens and closes and checked that the little door plungers operated freely, I think I gave them a squirt of WD 40- also around the bonnet locking catch and the plunger that sits there.  Then I closed everything and locked the car - the Pats light worked just fine and no further problems.  By the way she had been standing on the drive without any attention being paid to her for some weeks.

Good luck

If you read This page you will see that the Pats light is also connected to the alarm system. Thus as Mike says making sure that all the components of the alarm system are working may well have a bearing on your issue. The bonnet plunger in the slam panel is a common source of alarm problems and thus may well have been sorted by the WD40. Smiley

I've had another thought - shush, me missus will start to worry.  Roll Eyes

My Scorpios are Estates and on one off them the plunger that opens the Tailgate has a tendency to stick in the plunged position or only return half way, the reason being that the black surround is cracked and the plunger catches on it.

just a thought

Mike if your problem is only on the car with the dodgy boot opener then I suspect you may have solved your own problem!. Please let us know. Wink

ongoing. all likely culprits checked out including fuel cut off. unplugged and removed central control module. no remote central locking, internal lights etc. but dash LED still lit. OK. drawing power from somewhere. replaced CCM, back to square one. wiring diagram indicates LED ( Anti-theft ON indicator ) utilises fuse 17 in box. pulled this. LED unlit, and car starts. climate control panel down and other things. unfortunately when ignition turned on heater blower comes on ! how does that work ? still scratching head.

The blower on with F17 removed appears to be normal.
A note I've written in my handbook says with fuse 17 removed:
Heater blower stays on
No interior lights
No clock
Instruments reset
No warning for in gear

as a matter of interest, does anybody know the whereabouts of the alarm RF antenna ? is it inside the CCM module or is it one of the wires on one of the plugs ?

everything that is plugged has been unplugged and re- plugged. dash removed and instrument binnacle connections re-soldered ( o/drive and airbag ), pins suffering from dry joint / cracking. everything now working ok, except that the check and reset of climate control is u/s. pressing the recirculated air and a/c buttons does not do what it says on the tin. anybody else had the problem ? thanks

On mine I have to turn both control knobs fully anticlockwise , then press and hold in the a/c and recirc buttons until the passenger side flashes OO. I never get to scroll down the fault codes. Turn knobs to original positions and restart the engine pressing in a/c button if necessary.
If no go could be the multi connector behind the a/c panel has not seated properly.
Hope this helps
