If the water pump was broken the car would over heat. Sounds like the heater matrix is blocked. try back flushing matrix and feed pipes to matrix. Test before refilling with antifreeze.

Go to 'How to do things'. On page two there is a thread about back flushing the matrix. On page 4 look at 'Removing stubborn air locks'. I'd try the air lock first. The problem with the matrix is that the internal pipes have twisted plastic spirals in them. These break up and can block the system particularly if a substance like K seal has been used. IF you resort to back flushing take great care with the plastic connectors which come through the bulkhead as they can be brittle. Good luck and please let us know how you get on.

Has anyone got contact with someone who replaces heater matrix at reasonable cost? It is an unpleasant job I would like to pay someone to do.

What's a reasonable cost?
It's a pig of a job (I've done it) only in that you have to take so many things off and remember to get it all back together. Plus the instructions can be a little vague (I haven't written up my experience of this yet).
Will probably take someone who knows their way around cars at least a day. Took me 3 to get it up and running again but it didn't help when the rad drain plug snapped inside the rad - managed to get it out and replace it with a spare I had.

Whereabouts in London are you?

I have replaced about a dozen heater matrix. It does require a major strip out.Astrip out means right down to the dash assy and heater assy removal . Disconnection of pipework inside engine at bulk head is difficult to say the least. My best time was four and a half hours. good luck. dave44
