heater blower failed

a few days back my ventilation blower started sounding like a bike wheel with a flap of cardboard in the spokes   now today it did about 4 clicks tailing off as it died  -my car has done over 200,000 miles so its not really surprising .i have manual a/c so there is no hbc involved and a/c on or off makes no difference .i dont suspect the switch as switches don't make clattering noises .1 read the proceedure for cleaning the motor that looks a bit daunting and i wonder if the motors are common to any other fords and if new are available as i dont want to  pay for a major garage job to instal something thats likely not much more life in it than mine---i cant find any posts covering complete failure and replacement but i suppose someone had to be first--mine is a late 1997 build auto diesel --any info is welcome anyone know if the old granada blower motor is the same as the ultima in case one surfaces

I've done that repair successfully on my previous scorp.  Time consuming but not hard.

thanks guys it looks like the chances of finding a new fan motor are negligable even e bay has little to offer so far apart from a guy in denmark wanting new part money for a high mileage second hand one .--i had hoped the old granada might have had the same motor but cant establish whether that was so or not bmw seem to have a similar design but wrong dimensions  perhaps ford never considered them as a service item

Other model Fords don’t appear to use motors with the same part no but for all I know other cars may have them but use a different length lead or different plug & therefore different part no’s.
New ones do appear to be available but if I remember correctly getting on for £300. For some reason the non climate ones are dearer, I don’t know why as I believe some people who didn’t like CC converted to non CC.
Pattern ones are available but still expensive. Eurocarparts still list them but not in stock.
You can see pattern ones here: www.rexbo.eu/ford/scorpio-ii-gfr-ggr-94/2-5-td-6967/blower-100349/

I’ve used Rexbo without problem, I’ve not looked to see if you can get it cheaper elsewhere.

Someone on the mailing list a while ago said they used a Granada one but had to change the plug but whether that’s all models or just late ones or just Granada Scorpio’s I don’t know.

You may find complete boxes on ebay like these but who can say what the motors are like:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262035784487

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262035725056

I notice one has a screwed down filter cover.

The Hella one appears to have the right part number 7013671 as shown here:
http://eucatparts.com/?action=cat_ford_part&s_id_part=21676&s_id _model=84&s_code_image=Z001389500

Hover your mouse over the ? to see the fitment when more than one part number listed.

A bit cheaper here:
http://www.onlinecarparts.co.uk/hella-7163691.html

I’ve never had a problem using part no’s from eucarparts but don’t take my word for it being right.
Having found a part no I usually paste it here first to see what comes up:

hi tompion that e bay job with the screwwed down filter lid is idenical to the aircon unit in my 1991 sierra 2000e sapphire-ordered motor from online car parts but just got refund because they havent got and cant get one they say hella no longer make them so the search continues  -still  cant find why a satc motor is different from a manual one speed is still controlled by external resistors so i cant see the need for a different motor surely it cant just be the plug--the mk 6 escort one looks promising but its rated at 110 watt wheras scorpio is 130 watt but cant trace physical measurements anywhere for either

pleased to report that i got another aircon heater unit from ebay  and used the clubs method of changing the motor with complete success -just one thing wasnt clear in the instructions was removal of the vacuum motor by undoing 2 nuts --its only necessary to slacken those nuts then pry the clip they go through upwards as they sit in "U" SHAPED cut outs in the housing bracket --i thought the housing had holes to accomodate the studs in the motor and attempting to remove the nuts sheared them both off luckily having another vac motor on the e bay housing i was able to complete the rebuild --i did find it necessary to remove the wiper motor and linkage even then i had to bend forward the bulkhead extension to get the cut part out and in again . removing it was impossible as one of the retaining bolts was positioned behind the diesel engine coolant header tank and i didnt want to go there especially as i couldn't see the others either --looks like my old motor died because a worn out brush had popped out of the end of its guide and jammed into the commutator at an angle following the direction of rotation  and the commutator was very worn and black with no shiny copper visible-- once again thanks guys for your help -if any of you whizz kids know how to edit the original instruction page to clarify the bit about removing the vacuum motor  it might prevent another member making the same mistake as they wont have read this

Bernard. Glad to hear you are sorted and thank you for the update. I don't think it is possible to alter the embeded pages as that is why we created the How to do Things page. Will look in to how we can make sure your advice is retained.  Smiley
