Has anyone had a problem with the on/off radio push button. I have noticed that that lately it won't stay in the off position. Today my battery was completely dead .Could this be the cause, and if so is it possible to get a new button. jls936

jls. It is not something I have ever come across on the site but if the radio is permanently on then eventually it will cause the battery to drain. Personally I'd be inclined to remove the radio and give the control a spray with contact cleaner to see if that will effect a repair.

Switch failure was reported several times a few years back on the mailing list, but I’ve not seen it often on here, I believe the latch inside the switch wears out. Normally the radio goes off anyway after an hour if you switch it on with the ignition off. I would have thought the same would happen with a faulty switch – leave it on for an hour or so with the ignition off & see if it goes off automatically. You could leave it on permanently & just turn the volume down when you don’t want to listen, that way it will go off when you turn off the ignition.

Hi, I think you will find that, as long as the internal contacts of the switch are ok, the mechanical “latch” is not relevant to the operation because the circuit “latches” electronically – in other words, if the Radio is already off, momentarily pressing the button will turn it on and pressing it momentarily again will turn it off. The mechanical “latch” eventually fails through wear (as, unfortunately do most things mechanical, including ourselves!). KeithCEng

Many thanks Simmo Tompion and Keith. Update : I have been in the habit of just turning the volume right down when I did not want the radio on, as Tompion suggested. The display stayed on until I switched the ignition off. Today I left it on for approx. an hour with ign. off and sure enough the radio was off when I checked. And now the on off button works!!
