erratic over run

Hi, 97 cos estate, on overrun the engine surges occasionally occurs above 25mph and below 55mph other times when you take your foot off the accelartor the revs just settle. Had a little of this in my 95 cos saloon but cured itself as I drove it more regularly. Possibly a different issue is on tickover mainly when hot after 10 or so seconds the idle adjusts dow by 50+ revs and stays there, blip the accelerator and it repeats the process. Runs fine other than this showing 27 mpg on non motorway runs and does what is asked smooth autobox changes - nice drive. Any help or suggetions please.

Check the throttle butterfly moves freely and the accelerator cable is not sticking also check for weak or corroded return springs in the linkage. Might just need a drop of oil somewhere.

Hi. Go into "Servicing and Repairs, look down the left hand side of the page, click on Engine, and in the page now displayed click on the piece dealing with the MAF. Good luck Mike
