Windscreen washer blocked?

Hi All,
my windscreen washers aren't able to blast the fluid over my windscreen anymore. Just get a v short shot about half way up screen then fluid just trickles out.

Doesn't seem to be the jets (passed a nichrome wire into them anyway for about 2.5in) and the pump seems to be working (can hear it whirring away).

So I think (and a car mechanic agrees) that the filter (a fine metallic mesh) is blocked - probably with that black gunk that seems to be able to grow in the fluid. Would you agree?

So what's the best, and easiest, way to clear the filter? Do I need to remove the tank? Anyone done this before - I couldn't find anything in the usual places on site?

Ta

Hi Paul,

From underneath unplug the pump & pull it out of the washer bottle then empty your sleeve of washer fluidSmiley. The filter is part of the grommet that the pump pushes in with.

If you remove the drivers side fog light / indicator you can at least see the pump which you can access by laying on the ground and putting your hand up behind the bumper. The pump fits into the rubber bung which is also the filter mesh. The chances are the mesh has broken down and you will need a new one - at least that is what happened on mine some years ago.
You may find that you need to reverse flush the pipes and the pump, probably worth flushing the tank out with a hosepipe while you are at it.

Thanks Dave & Mike,
was fairly easy - didn't have to remove fog light. The filter cleaned up easily and was intact. But took a while to flush all the black gunk out of the tank. As picture shows the reason for the blockage. Hopefully won't have to do it again for another 21 years Smiley
