It's an LED.
To test the LED & the wiring to it unplug the ABS controller - this should short the warning light wire to earth (via a switch in the plug) & make the light stay on when you turn on the ignition.

Hello Tompion,

Right so according to MOT man we have no "bulb" does this infer some botcher has messed to get the light out, is it difficult to access to see if mot man is wrong? (doesnt want to do the job, but he's like that!).

As I seem to understand the connecting plug is by the water level and under the unit there -correct?

Sorry but am chocolate Teapot with complicated scorpio things, got stung trying to save another for posterity.

Thanks guys  Roy

Forgot to mention no traction control light either on ignition start up or after when using switch - suspect large botch!!?

Unless the MOT man has taken the dash out I would imagine he's just assuming it's a bulb.

Do you know if the ABS works?

It sounds like you're in the right area for the connector, I think you need to lift the coolant tank to get at it - a long grey plug with a centre bolt.

Bad ABS looms are common, so you may have wiring issues.

Hi  so there's no easy "look in" place under the dash to see if there is no led in the dash, he dont want the job, would a failed fuse put up the same symptoms?

Car comes with some welding that he dont want either.

Any one local to me could help?

When I get the car back will have a look

There are 3 ABS fuses but the controller fuse is also used by the airbag so if that's OK ...

Airbag light functions OK (unusually for a stood scorpio as generally they flicker and annoy you unless you use the car regularly).

It's just the ABS and TC lights that dont light at all even from the centre console  switch.
 Thanks Roy

The ABS needs to function for the MOT.   The 'tester' is obliged if asked to take the car out and 'test' if the ABS is working in such case as a failure of the dashboard light.    All the 'tester' has to do (as he/she should well know) is to brake fairly hard with the left-side on gravel at the side of the tarmac to determine if the ABS is working.   If the ABS works as it should do, (by pumping the pedal and making the appropriate noise etc), then it should be passed.   Just remember, it's all in the MOT testers discretion.

Hello, got the car back now and it appears the ABS does work, chased it up with a different mot tester and he stated light must come on and go out - hence anyone got a dash that works.

Hello Tompion,

We have unplugged the bolted connector by the water tank and still have only 3 lights on in that section of the dash, connector was clear of the centre bolt retention and almost clear of the abs unit - liked the skinned knuckles  though ?

Have a spare dash now, but would have to get this done by spanner man as its beyond me. Is there any other things (easy) to check as per your last advice it's not fuses as the airbag light is on.

Need to get this fixed so I can move the car on, as Movvy needs the room and attention, for my son.

He will join soon just wants to drive the car first!

Hi Roy

I posted how to test the cluster at the end of your other thread, but you'd need to access the back of the cluster so not much use:
http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Advice;action=di splay;num=1531814271

Usually you don't need to fully extract the bolted connector for the light to come on so it sounds like you've done enough to test it although you could of course have a wiring problem.

Removing fuse 27 should cause the light to come on.

There are connectors set into the inner wing where you could probably probe for continuity accessed from the drivers footwell after removing the lower dash panel but not easy to get at.

***************NOW FIXED ****************

We changed the dash (The AA or AB suffix appears not to make any difference), I am told it came from a cossie estate so the engine spec is right.

Subject to road testing when MOT'd all appears to work.

Many thanks to my son who has the dexterous fingers (no thanks to ford and their clips on the multi plugs!) total time for 2 debn dumplins work 2 1/2 hours, spanner man wanted 2 so we dun good!

Just welding now and it should be MOT'd.

Thanks for all the help and replies on this the dreaded ABS  MOT fail.

It was't when I changed mine. Mileage dropped by 26000. Original one repaired and put back so mileage now almost accurate.

Further to this drove the car a little and although the static test makes the lights go out (both abs & tc) they come back on , but on stopping the car and restarting the ignition sequence the go out again.
Seem to remember something about a "rolling" test on this, need to move the car on also, so will probably be on flea bay before long as no one here wants to rescue it- or have all the lovely hard to get cossie bits  Sad Sad Sad

Probably a C1095 problem that needs the solder-repair, look on here for the remedy.
