hubby done the lovely heater matrix replacement job but now the car wont start, but it hasnt been turned over since last november as we had to put the car to one side due to me being ill.
dont all shout but i have now said if it dosent pass its mot which run out a year ago then its got to go. we have spent so much money on it as before the matrix went the head gasket went. it was running fine before he done the heater matrix except it was over heating due to it being blocked.
we have put petrol in about 50 miles worth and a brand new battery, it will turn over but wont fire.
any ideas please as he loves his car and dosent want to let it go thanks

Make sure all wires are connected to the battery.

Apart from the thick wires on the negative side there should be 2 thin wires - they may be joined and sharing the same ring terminal.

hi thanks have checked both and are ok. i bought a elm 327 obd 2 but i cant get it to connect to both a iphone and a samsung phone both via wifi and bluetooth. but one thing it did say on both phones is that the ecu not connected. if the ecu was dead or not connected would that cause the car not to turn over plz thanks

Hi   I don't want to guees at helping you but please can you clarify.
In your 1st post you say car turns over but does not fire, in your later reply you mention "car not to turn over", is the pats light on in the windscreen - if so with the car locked it should flash once every 3 seconds approx, check also from inside the car with the ignition on does the pats light go out or does it flash rapidly for a minute then settle to flash a code

Look up the article on this, is the bonnet switch for the pats working correctly ie bonnet shut if car open no pats light or pats light on with bonnet open, this is caused by bad connections lots of wd40 sprayed around the switch and the connector just inside the slam panel.
I suspect help will come soon from someone with lots more knowledge than i have, good luck

I once had this problem when changing a battery and although I was absolutely sure I'd re-connected all the black wires, I'd actually dropped one. Symptoms were same as yours and it caused me a tremendous amount of grief. If the ecu is not connected, the car will still turn over but never start. Strongly suggest you have a good look down the far side of the battery as it will probably due to one of the black wires not connected.

Hi sorry for the delay we had no internet thank you sky
We have checked the switch and that is fine. We can't hear the fuel pump when turning the car over and we don't think there's enough petrol going to the fuel rail so changed the fuel regulator and something else sorry can't remember what it was, well it is 03.15 in the morning lol but checking the relays and the brown relay part no v23073a1001/85gg14n089ca looks suspicious and can't hear it clicking so tomorrow that will be the job to start with fingers cross it's that will keep you updated thanks

Checked all the fuses? eg Main fusebox -F13 F16 F17
AUX-F31 (EEC V ignition module
) F34 F37 F42( fuel pump)
Relay R17-green/violet (fuel injection pump))  R 19 brown engine management
R 21 blacki-ignition lock

R 21 caused exactly the same problem on me 2.9 12v but that has the EEC IV . Don't know if that would be different. Found that by tapping the relay with a spanner got the engine started each time until I could change the relay.
