Tony, thanks for confirming code but that's the one I was trying and it does not get accepted. The radio screen comes up with 'M986 HFT' when switched on, whatever that means. It looks like I'll have to go back and try to fix my old radio which does accept its code and seems to work on radio & CD but has no sound output. Bob

That looks like a reg number, has it ever been changed? Mine comes up with my reg after a battery disconnect. Is it the original radio? Tony

I would say that M986HFT was the reg number of the car the radio came from, failed mot in june 2007.

But if the serial number is correct then surely the code should work unless maybe the unit has been re-coded at some time. Bob Double check the serial number (fives can look like sixes if a bit worn) Tony

The serial number should if I remember begin with an "M" and it is possible to put the registered number into the radio after it is unlocked as an added security feature.... Read the handbook! http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/2007hbook.htm its under system security!

Hi Fitted a new radio to the estate yesterday, (given up with 7000's so put a 5000 wood in - nice) this came up with a reg number, so I ignored it and just put the code in as normal. On first button press it then reverted to the code... prompt then proceed as normal - I think the Ford Audio guide that comes with the car has this info also. HTH Roy

Thanks for input gentlemen. This is indeed a replacement. I've never seen one with the Reg No. entered before. Dug out my handbook but you still need to enter the code first. Serial No. is correct. Code of 7988 written on label & confirmed by Tony but I think its been changed because there's an additional undated label saying 'RADIO DECODED BT R.D.S.' Bob

Hi Bob Try the following: Disconnect battery, leave for a few minutes then reconnect. Radio screen should now show that Reg number. After a few seconds the Reg should disappear and C O D E appear, if it doesn't press button 1 once to get C O D E. Now type in 7988 using buttons 1 2 3 4 and confirm with button 5 If that doesn't work then I would suggest the radio has had the code changed. Keep us informed Tony

Hi Tony, I earlier did all that to no avail. That's what made me think the code has been changed. Does anybody know how to change a code, otherwise a firm on eBay charges £30. Bob

Sorry Bob The reg No is indeed the car it came out of. I bought it as scrap when it had failed it's MOT- really was a wreck. The radio was working when it was removed but I had no reason to put the code in before I started taking parts off it and stopped running the engine. Once again sorry.

| But surely the unit should still work with the 7988 code which is correct for that serial number unless someone has had the code changed. The Reg number of the donor car shouldn't make any difference. Or am I missing something? Tony

Hi Tony. After so many attempts the Radio times out, then after a few more "wrong codes" being entered the 7000RDS shuts down. The only remedy for this is to switch the Ign on and walk away for a few hours. I know this as it has happened to me a few times . Leaving the Ign on for such a long time always had me worrying that the Bty may go flat, luckily that never happened. Worth a try especially as it seems that your display works - which mine does not so I had a lot of guess work to do. Still, I got there. Mike

Thanks Glyn, not your fault. That explains things. I'm now sure the code has been changed, there's an additional undated label on it saying 'RADIO DECODED BY R.D.S.' Tony/Mike, The Reg No. of the donor car is indeed irrelevant. I've had the 30 minute timeout and waited with the ignition on but the code 7988 does not work. I'm going to contact the ebay decoding firm. Bob
