Heated window switch illumination

This is more OCD than a problem, but I wonder if anyone can tell me how the screen switch symbols should be illuminated? On mine, the top (rear) one is always lit, and the bottom (front) one is never lit. Switching the car lights on makes no difference. Both the photos in the link below are with the screens off, an orange tell-tale in the middle of the switch is lit with them on but the symbols don't change.
If wrong as they are, is it easy to fix?

Thanks in advance.

Hi  more OCD as you say... the lights are part of the switch, and like the window switches and heated seat one have the illumination (big word for a Debn lad!!)  built into the switch,
Dont think they are replacable but there are many on here wiser than me Cheesy

They all light up all the time-or should do if the bulbs are working, sit in your car in the dark and it's still like Blackpool illuminations.

Not sure just how much dash you have to free up the get access to change them, main thing i have found is they work when pressed and the light comes on in the of the centre button.
The climate panel by the side of them replaces easily ( press 2 clips top and bottom with a screwdeiver) but may not have the access you require.  Releasing the radio (pins needed - from ebay about £2) and the 2 retaining screws above gives a lot of movement but it may no be good enough.

 Keep Scorpio-ing

As far as I know they should both be lit all the time, ign on, but the bulbs tend to fail, both mine are out. You will need to replace the complete switch, the dash wood bit will have to come off for that. They may be still available from Ford.

Hi, thanks very much for the replies, may well look into whether the switch is available and if so how much. The car is off to the garage on Friday for a list of jobs to be done, top of which is finishing off the welding that was done earlier in the year properly.

The switch can be carefully taken apart so it may be possible to replace the faulty bulb.

Found it in the handbook btw, the symbols should only be illuminated when the lights are on.

Switches are no longer available from Ford. Never mind they still work, unfortunately half the front screen itself doesn't!

I don't think you need to remove the dashboard, just the climate control panel which should give you access to the switches.
If you dismantle one be careful of the tiny springs jumping out !
I am a little confused by the handbook statement as in all 3 of my Scorpios the heated screen and rear window and the seat memory symbols in the door pocket are all illuminated when the ignition is switched on , not the lights.

Thanks; I will have a look at mine next time I am in it and confirm what they do, I think it is the ignition too.

Glyn is right, and the book is wrong all window switches heated screen and rear screen switches and the light switch together with the seat adjust 3 position with confirm bar illuminate all the time not just when lights are on.
Like I said Blackpool illuminations, turn the radio on to finish the job! Grin

Thanks for that Tompion-excellent.
Grain of wheat bulbs I have used in the illuminated switches are still going, the oldest ones over 8 years.

This is what mine does:
Ignition - Window switches, seat memory, trip computer, heated rear window, traction control

Lights - add Light switch panel, heater/aircon controls, selector quadrant

Heated seats not lit at all when off

Heated seat switches should illuminate (not just the on light) - bulbs are gone in mine so can't say at which point.
The button to disable the rear windows should illuminate red (when disabled) but is barely visible.
Same with the radio on/off button - lights with the lights on but hardly visible.
The seat memory switches also illuminate for a few seconds without ignition on each time you open the door.

Hello All

The heated seat switches on 'Movvy', along with both heated screen front and rear all worked, with illumination when ignition 'on' and when activated.   I spent a long time replacing the 'back-lighting' with LED's.   So whoever has 'Movvy' now will have those switches working, (unless 'Movvy' is dead)    I put all info on this, and how to replace, many moons ago, and offered all owners on here the same 'fix' if they sent their switches, or sent spares for me to work on.  Only two owners took me up on the offer!   I had loads of LED's ready, now I have nothing.   Funny how these things seem to go full circle with newer owners.

I hope you are all well and enjoying the best Ford ever made.
