Just had to replace the battery and all seemed to be going well. After it settled down it was hard to know when it was changing gear as it was so smooth, untill yesterday. The car is now undrivable, the 2 lower gears are not to bad but then it keeps loosing drive, the engine revs and bangs in gear. I have disconnected the battery, checked the oil level, but no better. I will clean the maf but as the O?D light is flashing when in reverse I dont think it will be that simple. Help please.

Prime suspect has to be the wiring loom & connectors going to the autobox. There has been a lot of rain recently - have you gone through any deep puddles ?

Hi Mike The car is kept in a garage and I dont use it if its raining, so no water has splashed up. Its a 98 so I hope the wiring is ok, it was going so well before. The engine is not running as normal, revs a bit high on tickover and drops to low when put in drive. When I put it in drive the pump sounds like its pulling air, if the filter dropped down could it pull air or is there enough oil in the sump. Its the same as when I hosed down the engine bay after the top hose went, never again, but its all dry under the bonnet, will take apart big plugs on off side inner wing see if that helps.

Just checked and found p0708, p0713 and p1000 all to do with the gearbox. p0713 is trans fluid temp circuit high voltage input and p0708 trans range sensor circuit high input but that code is not listed on the site nore p1000.

I have been following this thread and I wanted to ask; if the loom goes is that curtains? Are they irreplaceable or is it uneconomic to do so?

P1000 OBD-II Monitor Testing Incomplete. This code will be there if you've disconnected the battery or cleared the codes - it may not go with other faults present.

Quentin, the looms are certainly repairable (Details in the 'How To' section) but it would be expensive unless you can do it yourself. Bob
