Help, my engine has stated stalling at junctions, not all the time about 2-3 times in a 2mile journey . it also has a very small window as the temp needle just starts coming up off cold that it idles rough (hunting like too rich ) but normal clears after a couple of rev ups . when it stops it restarts instantly and drives ok only to do it again shortly afterwards. ive cleaned the mass air meter and throttle body but there's no difference, ive checked for fault codes and there is none showing.

Checked the idle air control valve and the vacuum piping between the back of the engine and the bulkhead? Only needs a slight air leak to cause chaos !

Is the car used regularly? If possible get it warmed up and take it for a strong run to clear the systems out, but dont get fuzzed. Regular use is best for any scorpio but the cossies in particular need to be worked. HTH

update, I checked the idle air control valve and it seems to be ok BUT the wiring to its plug after removing the outer sleeve was cracked with bits missing ! ive insulated it as im sure both wires must have been touching at some point. I also noticed that a lead from the battery going to the fuse box was loose at the battery terminal and also pulled all the relays out and cleaned their terminals. after a 4 mile run it seemed ok but it was already warmed up after coming from work so we'll see in the morning ! Torbayboy , it's only been getting a run at weekends as I keep its use on salty roads to a minimum but is normally ok

It's the wires. You need to check all the wires in close proximation to the top of the engine compartment, they will all be 'crusty' and burned inside. You also need to take the car for a good hard 'blast' like Roy says. Even the 2.3. Scorpio's are cars to be 'driven' not to be used for shopping-trips.

Whilst it is quite likely wiring, I had similar (stalling a couple of times at junctions but not necessarily as short a journey as 2 miles). It was a faulty MAF. They will run quite happily with the MAF disconnected, to test if it's that.

Hi reedyone, try taking the drive belt to the aircon off, its a 2min. job and could be the answer to your problems. I had the same symptoms with both of y Cossie. The air con was seizing up, even stalling the engines. That was years ago; I removed the drive belts and have no further probs. Good luck Mike

Hi Mike, I had the air con pump seize on my cos saloon but that then burnt throught the belt and it fell of, so didnt cause any problems. Any way how are we all? ? Still here I hope, nothing but battery troubles and poor running due to being shut in apart from trips for the biz (and a jolly to N A as the freezer gave up the ghost). Speak again, stay well and stay in remember johnsons blonde!! Say no moe nod nod wink wink (wrong vowel) know wot I mean) STILl a child Beat that!
