12v running and idle problems

1995 12 v estate, stars but runs very roughly, spark plugs seem wet, idle is unbelieveably rough, wont rev to clear as with damp etc.

We tried disconnecting plugs (all in turn) and no difference, battery was low so charged it up a bit, starter turns OK and idles just sits there wobbling all over the place, not burning all the petrol so smells a bit.

Some small improvment if you "crush" (looking for splits etc) the front large air intake hose (nearest the slam panel).

Dont have a reader so cant currently access faults etc.

Any ideas welcome, last time it was used some 2 1/2 weeks ago, ran fine after a little surge at start, no missing etc, end of tether really as this one does NOT want to be a good boy at all.

The first thing to do is Clean the MAF

then check Fault Finder and scroll to the relevant section. Smiley

The first thing to check with the 12v is the small vacum pipe that is connected to IACV on the air intake. It can become detached and is easily knocked off if you have been working on the engine. That's the 1st thing I would look too it has a big effect on the starting and running of the engine.
When I had my 12v it took me ages to locate the problem. Even if it looks connected double check.

It might be worth checking the coil. They have been known to fail. Also the BIG plug on the wing under the ABS pump etc is worth checking to make sure its sitting correctly. Have you had any work done on the engine recently.
It should be easy to find a coil its the same as the one used on the Granada engines.

Sorted mostly now, plugs bad and distributor needed clean up etc. Turns out trying to get it all firing over some time choked up the motor, had to get it up to temp and drive harshly to free it all up.
As I've said on here before you need to use the Scorpio, with regular trips they are beautiful, reliable cars-but if it won't start and idle properly you can't run it, can you?
