95 Scorpio 2.0 16v battery draining very fast

Hi everyone I have recently purchased a 1995 2.0 16v from a friend in Spain, only just over 100k Kms as well . it's been standing for a few years now , but filled it up with fuel and drove straight back to the UK without any problems!!
However I had to travel back to Spain without the Scorpio, the battery was removed before I left but on my return on refitting the battery it drained almost immediately and refused to even attempt to start ?
Any one have any ideas at all the car looks and drives very well and this has taken me by surprise anything obvious I should look for ?

Battery draining has been well documented over the years. I would suggest that you look to the alternator as that could be the culprit. You can unplug the alternator to isolate it and see if that cure the problem.
I am sure others will have more comprehensive ideas.

Yes I did have that idea myself as the alternator has just been fixed for something else

I would say its the battery, as it was disconnected, they tend to give up with no warning. Is it the same one as it had in Spain.

On my *95 cos estate it was the alternator, despite it having been just rebuilt (local leccy), there are 3 red wires on the battery disconnect the one for the alternator and see if it goes down overnight as mine did.
Can you get your battery checked, as modern ones fail really quickly and lead acid ones don't like to be run right down.
