Engine oil leak (24V) - upper RHS

I seem to have a pretty good engine-oil leak coming from the direction of the RHS head, but it's coming from behind the the Alternator/PS Pump frame and the exit-point is not visible.  It's unusual as I changed the oil a few months back, but the oil that's leaking is jet black (dipstick still showing clear).  I am guessing it's a rocker gasket failure or tensioner gasket failure.  Is there anything else it could be, before I start removing bits?

Is it definitely engine oil Jack? I have a power steering leak on that drivers side that drips black with other grime but you can see it is red in colour.
Presume you changed the oil filter down that side? when changing that it is always good to rub a little bit of engine oil onto the rubber seal on the new filter as it helps seat the seal better when taking it up to strong hand tightness. Could it be coming out there as this would probably still have some of the old black oil possibly in its feed lines?

As John says re PS oil. Check the pipe(s) from the reservoir down to PS switch (and watch the PS oil level). Although it's red it becomes black by time it reaches the floor. They're known to leak from around lower connection under reservoir even after tightening the clip. Wiping it up was a regular maintenance job for me.

Hi and thanks for the replies.  Yes it's engine oil, as I changed the Transmission and Steering fluid recently and that's still the distinctive cherry-red.  When the engine is warm, it seems to be coming from behind the PS pump and runs down the Pump/Alternator frame.  The oil filter is too far back, so I can rule that one out.

Oh man I feel for you lol!

I replaced my cam cover gaskets when I done the heads. I used the gaskets that came with the set. I also replaced the spacer washer grommet thingys.

It has leaked continuously since and kept filling the centre vee with oil. I used sealant after sealant to fix --- nope.

I have just replaced the gaskets with Burton Power ones which felt better and fitted more snug into the grooves in the covers.

I removed the grommet thingys as they split (poor quality). I have fitted the spacer tubes without them and used a penny washer instead. This pushes  the cover onto the head and the spacers stop you from over-tightening.

So far no leaks.

If anyone has any supplier ideas for these new grommet thingys and also injector seals that would be great.

Injector seals is another story. I have made my own.

Hi Dan,
I was looking to buy a full gasket set at some point for the BOB engine but now you've got me worried about quality and where they come from. Shocked
Especially when you are paying a good few hundred quid for the set.

Yep, BurtonPower had none at the time, I got mine from another supplier.

The inlet spider insert joiner o-rings did not fit right (too thin and baggy)
Cam cover bolt seals were rubbish (too soft)
Injector seals collapsed and split causing air leaks and rough running.
The only thing that was any good was the head gasket which was in a sealed packet from a well known supplier.

I replaced the inlet gaskets, cam tensioner gaskets, cam cover gaskets , head bolts and new exhaust studs with  Burton Power sourced items.

Thanks guys.  So we are leaning towards the cam cover rubber gasket being the culprit?  I don't think BurtonP have stocked the Head Gasket set for nearly a year now, so have to look elsewhere and hope for the best.  Re the injector seals, do you mean the two rubber o-rings on each injector, or the press-fit cups on the rail?

Yep, the cups on the rail.

I have found some now, ordered and awaiting delivery.

Further clues - it only leaks after turning off the engine.  Clearly the running crankcase vacuum holds the oil in  ............ but I still haven't found the hole yet and there is no obvious leak around the RHS crankcase rubber
