What price a scorpio

What value do I put on my 04/98 cosworth ultima. As the cars are hard to come buy in good condition, mine has 80,000 on the clock, is a value of £2000 ok. This would be with Adrian Flux and costs a £10 extra on the £189 comp cover, mileage restricted to 3000. Ps, it is a face lift.

Depends on how you have insured it!
Cherised/Classic or plain flavour!
To a certain extent on plain flavour it is irrelevant what price you value your Scorpio.
In the event of say a "total loss" a plain insurance Co. will revert to "book" price.
You may counter claim their "assesment" with evidential pricing and current comparison sales. Service History etc....blah,blah,blah...
I recently had my insurance Co and their Chief Engineer in a pincer movement.
My 1998 Scorp was down as a total loss (Non fault).  After several derisory "offers". They told me that  £x amount was the final "offer" for a 1998 Scorpio and reverted me to Autotrader and classifieds on Ebay to justify their "offer".
Reported them to their governing body "FOS". They didn't like it up them.  Grin
Within three days had another increased "final" offer which was really quite good actually. However, i then dropped the "bombshell".
All the Scorpio's they had thrown at me were "pre" facelift.
Their "Chief" Engineer had a hissy fit ,when i took great delight in letting him know my Scorpio was indeed one of the few facelifted models ever produced .  Grin  Grin  Cool
I told him to "show me the money"  Cool
So, in a nut shell. Place what ever price you want on it.
Be prepared to prove that value and don't forget to play hard ball with them, as they will no doubt play hard ball with you.

Here endeth the lesson !  Roll Eyes

Good for you Adam. About time someone gave insurance companys a taste of their own  Wink. Unfortunatly you are quite right about the lousy offers some companys make. They will never take into account the time , love & effort you put into a car & then to make you an insulting offer is frankly...well...insulting really  Roll Eyes. you have raised an intresting point with the face lift models though ! Mine is a 98 facelift cossie estate in WHITE  Shocked. I would love them to find a comparison for that  Grin Grin Grin

Thanks for the information Adam.   Not sure what it would be insured under, I will find out before I take the insurance out. They need photos to prove condition and after looking on Auto trader there was no facelift cosworths for sale.

well done adam , insurance companys are a law to them selves , when i was doing the knowledge i was knocked clean off my moped , which was wrote off , had it insured for 850 quid , and they offered me 165!! , told em where to stick that eventually got 380 off them but it was a hell of a fight , but you`ve got to play them at there own game if you can

Rich.
I bet he wasn't known as'thingy'Turpin  Grin The modern version of the old highway robber doesn't need a mask,he just hides in an office and robs you through the post ! I had a lorry pinched a few years back, from Kidbrooke Station(yer know, sarfa the river)and had a very hard time getting anything like true recompense,in fact they virtually accused me of having it stolen  Angry

hello everyone, not sure what is happening, I've been ill for some time and then when I went into hospital for a routine investigation, which got halted because my heart was found to be in non normal rythmic pattern, then I was held on a cardicac ward for a couple weeks. Thus it maybe my emails got jammed up as when I got home I was not getting any messages from the club, so I rejoined again and still I am not getting any mail so either no-one is writing in or I still have a problem.

However to my disgust a driver in front of me that turned into the same road as me stopped in front of me and promptly reversed back into the front of my lovely Scorpio estate 95 N reg.

I need my car more than ever now and I am scared my insurance company [esure via sainsburys] my scrap the car because they dont like to put on second hand parts and a new bumper if available in nantucket grey is liable to be a mortgage job. My scorpio is priceless to me as in good nick, the only outstanding problem is my d**n ABS light comes on after 14mph . My scorpio failed the first MOT this year on this point so I let a auto electrician firm have it to check it all out at great cost and they believe it needs a new or certified second hand pump and the other thing attached to it. though they managed to get it MOTed not sure it will do it again without sorting this.
though I have found a company in Rochester kent will check these units out and if needs be repair them, so I have another of the same type, just waiting on funds to do that.  Then it will cost a bit to have that installed, but my car is worth it.

sorry to drag on but "What Price a scorpio" is right because to me its priceless and most insurance companies see it as their book price which aint much. So I maybe seeking advise on how to keep the car.

and my heart is still in arrythmia because of a lung disease. which limits ones life and activities.

Marie.
They can't scrap your car without your permission, you need to liaise with them and negotiate a price whereby you get some money and keep the car.You should then have enough to buy used bits from this site and find a handy person to square it up for you.The damage may appear disastrous to you but should really only be heavy cosmetic in a reversing shunt, and should be a case of removing busted bits and replacing them.

There is also a known problem with the ABS and details of the repair are shown Here.  There is a simple test to see if the motor is working. If it is then the likely problem is the soldered joints. A simple repair for those with the ability. If you are going to use this site then you need to post in the relevant sections. Ie; problems, needs advice etc.

Mine is insured for £2000 through Adrian Flux , I put £2500 on the form but they went on what I said on the phone before I started this post. As slave says the insurance companys dont value them very highly, but to the owners they are worth a lot.  Mine cost me £1850 and the spray job to repair to small dents and other little dinks, not done by me, another £800. I have just paid £75 for a headlight washer jet to keep it in near mint condition, thats turned out to be the wrong one again Huh and will have to go back to Fords, I just love the car. Kiss
