I think this quote sums up what is wrong with the insurance system in this country.
Quote for my Scorpio Estate 2.5L diesel.
Value set at £750........£661 TPFT
Quote for a BMW 3.5L V8 petrol I'm thinking of buying
Value set at £995..... £324 TPFT
Same company, same driver, same details ??
Go figure.

Had this problem too - for some reason, insurance companies dont like the 2.5td 
I was considering an TD ultima estate, but the insurance quotes were coming in at £70 - £120 more than my 24v - even from the same insurer on the same details.

I have just got another year. I was with Norwich... However they are now Aviva! My quote this year £318. That is fully Comp, full Euro breakdown including recovery, legal expenses, me and wife driving, no limit on mileage, NCB protection, and NO excess, apart from their compulsory at £100. JESUS! I thought, that's expensive up here for a Scots country boy! I shopped around and got a better deal from 'Swiftcover.com' Same deal, but with home-start for £250.94.
Used them before with a lot of success. They even dropped me a line to say my no-claims were accepted because they contacted the previous insurer.

This year's renewal is in, £322 fully comp. Same insurer NIG, broker says that's the cheapest by far, next one up is £400 odd.
Mind you includes £40 legal aid, spare car in the event of etc.
