Pictures in Posts
« on: Jan 3rd, 2010, 7:34pm »

Hi all,  I've tried, I've tried, read the posts BUT - how , how, can I include a simple .jpg with my post on this forum?

There's a button for INSERT IMAGE, it does embrace my pic's location, but then a RED CROSS appears.

Can anyone educate me?

First step is to find a website to host the picture as the forum can't hold it for you.  I'll use photobucket as my example here.

1.  So you need to sign up for an account.

2.  Once you're a member, you'll find the upload button on the home page.

3. Give that a click and find the picture that you want to upload.

4. Once it has finished uploading, you'll find it in your "album" and you can hover the mouse over the picture then click next to where it says IMG code then copy that by right clicking and selecting copy.

5.  Paste the copied "code" into your post of choice...

6.  Finally preview it before it goes live!  Make sure you don't go over the 640x480 guideline!

Good luck!

Hi Londonajay again -- would you please have a look at the page? I cannot get it to work. It fails to display the pic IN the page. Please note the various linktypes I tried at the bottom of the page. The picture exists; it is 640x480 and it will display in a new window but not IN the page.
What do I do wrong?
Looking fowrad, Ray

hi ray

you need to use the download link to get the photo to show.

so, host your photo (you've done that bit).
click on the download button on the top left. your photo will be shown itself.
click and copy the link (downloaded link) and then use this new link with the above instructions.

i've edited one of your photos into your post. just click the modify button on the forum and you can see the link that i used.

Hi Andrew,  what downloadlink do you mean?

Right now I managed to get the pic by severely stripping the Picacasweb code

<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/QKJxZRzioV4KUXVZChhmiQ?authkey=Gv1s RgCJi-vqLn5e3o8QE&feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_-3jJs8IT1gA/S0HCIbPc7nI/AAAAAAAA5DY/A_Bga2uMeI0/s4 00/DSC01634.JPG" /></a>

down to the format

http://lh/photo/QKJxZRzioV4KUXVZChhmiQ?authkey=Gv1sRgCJi-vqLn5e3o8QE&feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_-3jJs8IT1gA/S0HCIbPc7nI/AAAAAAAA5DY/A_Bga2uMeI0/s4 00/DSC01634.JPG

and then enveloping it with the two (img)   http://lh3.ggpht.com/_-3jJs8IT1gA/S0HCIbPc7nI/AAAAAAAA5DY/A_Bga2uMeI0/s4 00/DSC01634.JPG

This is what the remaining code looks like, apparently everyting following src="  .....   and .jpg.

Like so:

http://lh3.ggpht.com/_-3jJs8IT1gA/S0HCIbPc7nI/AAAAAAAA5DY/A_Bga2uMeI0/s4 00/DSC01634.JPG

Is that what you meant?

hi there

to add the photo (so you can see it on the one screen), it needs to be like this...

[1mg]your photo link goes in here between the brackets[/1mg]

don't use the number 1. i've only done that so you can see what it looks like.

this is what one of your links will look like if done correctly (again it should be img, not 1mg)

[1mg]http://lh3.ggpht.com/_-3jJs8IT1gA/S0HCIbPc7nI/AAAAAAAA5DY/A_Bga2uMeI0/s4 00/DSC01634.JPG%22[/1mg]

Hi Thanks -- I think I now understand that Picasaweb, which provides the code, is adding many other code-elements that I just have to snip off so that the format looks like:

http://lh6.ggpht.com/_-3jJs8IT1gA/S0HCHTXzZiI/AAAAAAAA5DQ/uD4i5dYLC1M/s8 00/DSC01627.JPG

and envelope it with the (img) and (/img) using the proper brackets of course,

like so:

Now it works!
Thanks, Ray

Will ALL members  PLEASE limit the size of a picture attached to a post to 640x480 pixels.

This will reduce the amount of bandwidth we use and also make it so much easier for people with low resolution screens to see the whole post rather that having to scroll across.

If anyone has recently posted a picture wil they please resize it accordingly.

Also, can you keep signature photos to about 200x150 pixels.
