Headlight Washer Covers
« on: Jun 22nd, 2010, 5:45pm »

First attempt at the headlight washer covers today, did it by hand and its a bit rough but VERY pleased with the result!

I used a prefacelift one as its easier but intend to make all three types.

Cut to shape from black perspex and  tapered the edges.

Once I get a program written for the CNC router the tapered edges will be as smooth as the top and can be polished to the same finish.

I would expect the finished article will be almost indistinguishable from the original Wink

Not had a look yet but i suspect they can be glued directly to the top of the washer as the underside is just flat but may can make some sort of attachment later on.

Yay Smiley

They can be glued - the clips broke on one of my ones and I simply superglued it in place - stayed on (except when someone reversed into the bumper Sad ).

The bend on the very late ones could be a challenge Smiley

Or if it's a 6 axis router that you got, you could make a male and female mould. Heat the routered part up then mould it to shape........... Just a thought....

Thinking about it it dosen't have to be a 6 axis just a 3 axis would do........

The 'cut-off' corner is about 20mm.

P/No's on the backs are 98GG13L018/9AA - I thought these were the very late version Huh

They are the later ones..... The last of the facelift cars were built in April, may and early June '98 whereas the earlier facelifts were built from November 1997 (R reg ones mainly)

Mine was built June '98 (as you know!) and it has (or had) the covers without the corner cut off, see  my pic earlier in the thread.
