Speedo needle sticking?

Mine had gone all the way around and was sitting below the 0 mph peg. Resetting while thumping the dash didn't work! So rather than remove the consul, i disconnected the battery,i then drilled a 3mm hole just below the odometre inserted a short length of piano wire with a hooked end and fished it back toward the hole where i could insert another piece of wire the other side of the needle. Remove the fist wire, reconnect the battery and Hey Presto! the needle returned to base. To fill the hole i cut a short length of refill out of a pen (the clear bit at the end) which happened to be 3mm diameter and plugged the hole which now also acts as a stop for the needle, which just bounces back off it! plus it is hardly noticeable. Of course i would not recommend this on a new car, but it saves a lot of hassle!

Your "thump" timing must have been all wrong
