Not the normal 'seen by you' but spotted it anyway. Took the Scorpio in for the MOT today, passed fine despite standing for the past 3 weeks. Driving home this evening I saw a Scorpio for sale along the sea front in Clacton; pulled over and took a look, R reg 2.3 facelift Ghia auto saloon in state Blue with Raven leather, no sunroof or C/C and steel rims but new trims and it looked really clean apart from a few marks, the price? £850 
Sold as taxed and MOT'd with service history but the disc in the screen expired in April...
Either an old tax disc or someone is telling porkies 
When I bought my 2.3 Ultima the other year I parted with £1700 and still thought I did well; seeing the value of them now I'm feeling depressed, I need cheering up

The stark reality is that people who own Scorps know how good they are, everyone else can't see past the slagging they got on release and they see the headlights and all those old jokes come flooding back. Hence this car is a bargain to buy as long as don't expect to sell it on for a decent price to joe public.

True, just find it depressing to see them so neglected nowadays. I thought of P/X ing mine a few months ago, it seems that I couldn't give it away, let alone get a decent price on it; "nah, they're rubbish, we don't touch Fords" seems the common reply, the same dealer had a 2.0 T reg Mondeo sitting out front. Yes, we have a Mondeo, I'm not rubbishing it but it's no Scorpio.
Now seems like a good time, I'm toying with the idea of a facelift Cosworth, mabye I'm crazy thinking of swapping my 2.3 for a guzzling 24v

I just tried to part-ex my 24v Ultima estate that we've gone thrugh with a fine tooth comb mechnically to ensure it's sound and complete with the right parts on a Ssangyong Musso (Ineed something that sits higher off the ground due to my chronic back problems), and at first the dealer seemed excited then they said "we wouldn't be interested in a car like that".
Pity, I was hoping to get the Musso.

I find the prices tend to vary wildly. I bought mine earlier for around £1700. But they never seem to reach a decent price on ebay unless its a later model or very low mileage.

mine didn't do too bad on ebay i guess,in my opinion though,they are still a 10 year old car,and are priced by guides such as glasses as such,prices do very much vary,and all it takes on ebay for example is 2 people wanting it (what ever it is),thus forcing the price up.....
and as for dealers,there not really happy unless they make "a very tidy profit" on all cars,certainly a buyers market though,and not a sellers IMHO......

Funny that, ive just traded my musso for a 24v scorpio!! 
Dont touch the mussos, they are nothing but trouble. I know they are mercs but they drink the fuel and watch out for the dodgy turbos. Loads a Money. the brake pads never last more than six months and the discs are 80 pound each!! 
Trust me I know.
Stick with the scorp, wont beat it. Or try a shogun. Far better motor.

seanrach,...that's very interesting indeed. I was talking to a mate of mine who is an MOT inspector and he said quite the opposite regarding the Musso, a highly underated vehicle, he could not stop praising the things.
Maybe you had a dodgy one. I have owned large 4x4 before, the biggest being a Chevy Suburban and with this type of vehicle you don't expect it to be fuel efficient or light on brake or tyre wear. Those things in my experience all come down to accepting the cost of ownership.
I don;t do many miles and want something higher off the ground as I suffer with chronic back problems.
Mind you, the way things are looking with being able to sell the Scorpio, looks like I will be keeping hold of it

craig,think seriously before buying 1 of those as well,not unles you dont suffer from "sea-sickness" from going round the corners
back to the musso though,i also looked at 1 of them,very good value for money,and apparently the mechanics are pretty much bullet proof,sadly though,when i went back "to have a haggle",it had already gone......thus we got the jeep,good luck with it all though,and i also sympathise with your reasons for changing,not to different from mine....

Yes, they are getting old and are seen as such by the trade, they've been dropped from Parker's guide too. I've spent a lot of time and money on my car, a few things I still want to do but it's never let me down (crosses fingers as he says this ). The car wasn't there today, not sure if he's sold it; I even gave serious thought to buying it for a few parts and converting mine into a facelift with leather (my car has Raven velour), time (and money) is too thin on the ground at the moment though.
The dealers want them, just don't want to pay for them and the few I have seen sitting on forecourts haven't stayed for long which must be a good sign. It seems a good time to buy a Scorpio, just not a good time to sell one; I'm not expecting my car to be worth mega bucks, just some respect for the condition and work I have done reflected in the price (as many others do). Some marques are overpriced yet people still pay, I couldn't buy a similar aged BMW 318i, let alone a 523i or 525i with the money from my Scorpio yet I like the Scorpio far more.
We have a 1996 Mondeo 1.8 sitting outside, one owner, 24k on the clock (yes, genuine), main dealer serviced/MOT'd from new, the list value? £700. Look through Autotrader at the 'low mileage specialists' and see the prices they ask for cars, A couple of years ago I saw a '96 Scorpio 2.0 ultima with a supposed 17k on the clock, asking price £10,995; this is madness at the other end of the spectrum.

Responding to your comments. 
I have owned the ssyong musso which gave me nothing but greif, then i brought the daewoo version . a V reg 2.5 td. At first it was great.  Well for at least a few month.  then things started going. A bit like a chain reaction. Dont care what the mot inspector said. Does he own one? Ive had two and wish i hadnt.  As for the shogun, yes theyre a bit bouncy, but so was the Musso, as are most 4X4s.
Just my opinion though.
Proberbly me, I dont have much luck with most cars!
Must see me coming.
Must be the white stick and guide dog!! A dead give away!!
