Engine Loom ( remanufacture )

Anybody got a spare Engine loom from a " 97 2.9 Cossie Ultima " that runs from the two plugs on the O/S inner wing and down the "V" to the gearbox. Mine is starting to disintergrate so I want to make a new one , I need an old loom for all the plugs etc plus I need to keep my old loom intact just in case I get problems and so I can still use it. I'm going to see if I can use silicone cable ( if I can get enough colours ) to stop any further damage caused by the heat from the engine in the "V"..Theres no sign of any water damage at all just old age/heat cracking.Has anybody tried this , how did you get on Huh....Kimi....

I thought with people scrapping Scorpio's there would have been quite a few, are you wanting to make a new loom ? if you are " Vehicle Wiring Products " is worth a look wire is available by the metre plus they have a lot of products that are very usefull for making a new loom....Kimi....

Kimi, just be aware that some of  the 'connectors' shown in the VWP catalogue are NOT compatible with the Ford ones. I did a post about this recently having sent one of the 'junior timer housing' types to them for comparison.  Wink

It's a case of having to strip and re-use all the connectors.

I found this company too.

Yes I realized that the plugs/fittings etc would have to be Ford, thats why I need an old wireing loom for the plugs etc. When it's finished I'm going to wrap it in a heat proof tape then put convoluted protection over that. I'm also going to keep a tally of the cost with a view to posting pictures/instructions on here if anybodys is interested ?? The first problem is an old loom as without that it's a non starter as I'm not going to use my origional loom " just in case I need a reference " ie thingyitup !!!!!

I've just had an email from "Fordpartsuk"  they want , ARE YOU ALL SAT DOWN ? £349.26 + £5.00 postage for a new engine loom. I declined ! The only good thing is he said the loom was used from 15/02/95 to 15/07/98 these are Manufacture dates NOT the date of REGISTRATION . So that broadens my search, anybody got one Huh My email page now glows in the dark !

They wanted more for the plenum o-rings than ford did ( inc post ) Wink still had to pay £5.75 Inc at ford though...

I am going to see if I can find a cheaper source of the o-rings...

Aldi on Sunday had 2x boxed sets (metric and imperial) of O rings for around  £3-00 per set. If the O rings needed are larger than these, you can buy make it yourself custom size kits. Choose the diameter of the material, the length needed to make the O and superglue the ends.

Machine Mart and Screwfix do boxed sets of "O" rings in Metric or Imperial sizes. The "O ring kits " use super glue to glue the "O" rings to size 1) its not that strong 2) it creates a "hard spot" on the "O" ring which can impede it's sealing ability . I used to use them when I was an aprentice at Moore & Wrights in 1969 the glue wasn't called "Super Glue" then it was called  "IS12" we only used it to make a temperary repair.  SORRY TO DRONE ON THROUGH THE MISTS OF TIME, old fart syndrone !!!
