Hi there, My N reg 24v Ultima has just failed its MOT on a few points. The only parts I need to source are front brake hoses for both sides and a steering rack ball joint repair kit? The MOT tester reckoned the last time he had one in he managed to get the whole rack new for £80 ish? If anyone can point me in the right direction, that would be great.

I dont think they do a rack repair kit for the 24v £80 is good, i cant find them under £100, make sure its the speed sensitive one, although the normal one will fit. fordparts uk is your best bet i think for hoses

Cheers, going to phone FMD for prices as well, somtimes they do surprise me! Yes its the inner one with the flexible rubber cover over it. If ford do the kit that would be good news, I dont fancy changing the whole rack

the inner joints are not to bad to do take off gatter, there are no flats on the joint cap, so you need to get grips on it [mole grips or monkey wrench] undo it its tight replace with new one and use loctight on thread.

Cheers SP. Well I phoned Autoparts Direct and they had the brake hoses at £7.49 + VAT each, on the shelf. They also quoted me £140 + VAT for the entire rack which I thought was most reasonable. Out of curiosity I phoned my FMD (Julians of Didcot) to see if there was a ford repair kit for the steering rack. The first person I spoke to wasnt sure if one existed but arranged for some one from parts to phone me back. Minutes later I got the phone call from parts. I supplied them with the finis numbers (courtesy of this site) and they all existed and they were all available for next day, at £60 including VAT for the lot! Excellent! All I need to do now is install a swear box in my garage for when i do the job, should save the same amount again lol!
