you can 'facelift' a standard unit by taking it apart and painting it....bit of effort but cheaper......

So I gather I can't use pre-facelift lense for facelift headlight?
This will be the third headlight lense I've replaced in 5 months! 
D*mn lorries and stonechips. Is it only me this happens to?

You will need to separate the glass from the plastic insert. The facelift inserts are black, while the prefacelift ones are chrome coloured. Easy enough to do with a stanley knife and a length of thin cord to break the seals. Just remake with black silicone and leave to set overnight.
As for your luck in headlights, I've had Scorpios for years and never once had a cracked glass. I have got a set of headlight protectors though!!
