Transmission fluid cooler/radiator pipe ASAP

Hi guys! I wrote about my transmission fluid leak before [ http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Problems;action= display;num=1239324621;start=0#14 ]and just came back from the garage. it's a pretty bad situation. The whole connection between the cooler for the transmission fluid and the radiator needs changing. I mean there a two pipes that need changing both attached to the transmission fluid cooler and then to the radiator. First one is an ordinary rubber pipe that can be supplied by Ford for 36£, which is not bad. The second one is metal [was metal as it's totally corroded] , connected to the rubber one and goes to the radiator. The second one [metal] is not available from Ford and in that case the garage can do nothing. Has anyone got one spare and can send it to me asap? Please help me guys, I can not be defeated by a small piece of metal... I miss my car...

The pipes oyu are talking about can be replaced either with braided Brake piping or just ordinary black fuel tubing and held in place by jubilee clips. You just need to cut back to a good bit of pipe. I know of several members who have done the same job this way . There is NOT a lot of pressure in the system when its running. The pipes are I understand still available from FMD and do not cost lots of money . Do a search on the forum for the same subjects and I am sure you will find the answer . If fact I remember someone posted a few weeks ago about the very same fault . HERE IS ONE OF THE OLD POSTS If oyu use a small pipe cutter to cut the pipes it makes a very neat job of it and rubber does NOT rust so should be good for a few years more. Take care with the oil cooler rad itself as they tend to get quite fragile ..

i love you Snoopy! thanks for help. I've already been to the garage, showed them your post and they said that as long as i'm aware that this is not what FMD would recommend and it will probably last 3-4 years then they will do it Anyway should get my lovely car by Monday as FMD probably won't send them the parts before Friday... but never mind that, my lovely 'little' baby will be back in shape soon

If my memory serves me, when I did mine the short one would have cost about £25 from fmd, so compared to about a fiver for the pipe and a couple of clips it is a saving, also if you do try to change the pipe you may have trouble getting it out of the rad, they tend to bring half the rad with the thread that obviously adds more cost

there's a surprise, just got an email from Trevor from Ford Parts UK.com saying that they have all those pipes brand new still waiting for a quote but may consider getting the original part.

If you do do what I did and treat them with some sort of anti rust ... I covered mine in grease and wiped them clean every time I changed the oil , which I did every 3k and they stayed as good as new .

I've also seen a few of them use the rubber hose to just bypass a broken oil cooler completely and they seem to run fine, dont know how much it would affect them in the long term but i've had a 24v running like this for 3 years plus, no problems so far.

OK overall bill for the work + parts will be 140£ using bran new original Ford parts and no rubber bypasses etc. so it's not so bad. Will hopefully have my car back on Monday if the parts are there on time...

Oh Highlander come on... I probably could buy another one but what for? I need only one, I love and treat like a member of our family and I need it running. You may say that it wasn't worth it but i don't agree. I believe that cars if it's only possible should be fixed properly using original parts and let's be honest, there's not a one person it the world that ever got his money invested over the years back when it came to selling the car etc. And i'm not planning to sell my Scorp ever! I'll keep it as a second or even a third car and use a newer/new car daily. That's the way classics are born

| I disagree with that, I have never lost money on a Scorpio yet and I've had 18 (I think) And yes thats a reasonable price for the work done and parts replaced but you could buy another one for the same price

don't even start remember that you buy Scorpios on ebay for 80£ as non runners then fix usually minor failures and cars are running again I'm talking about normal users that have 1-2 cars on they driveway, not 18 Quote: And yes thats a reasonable price for the work done and parts replaced but you could buy another one for the same price Wink |

I work on the principal that a car should do 10 miles for every pound spent. My 24v cost 800 ( 8k miles... ) and I spent about £800 on her ( 8k miles.. ) so I had 16K to cover. I only made 9000 miles... Arghhh a loss... then sold £750 of parts.... Yay I am over 10m/£ TT
