2.5TD Engine.
« on: Jul 29th, 2009, 3:55pm »

Hi all,

If anybody hears of a good lowish mileage 2.5TD engine going, please let me know.
Needs to be the later 125BHP type, with the flybywire throttle.

It's to replace my current 195K engine which is suffering from low compression.
I did get a quote for a full rebuild.........£1480 plus fitting  ROFL

You can get a rebuild cheaper than that Smiley and if you feel a little bit brave, why not make an attempt to do the rebuild yourself ?  Low compression on these engines indicates a head gasket problem or valve seating, neither of which are major jobs.

Pinto.
Don't they suffer from bore wear like other engines ?

This is my everyday commute car, so haven't got the time to work on it myself.

I've already been told "oh you can get it done much cheaper" but when I ask
"oh really, got some telephone numbers or contact names".......it all goes quiet !!

Hense why I'm enquiring.

Yes, but provided they're looked after, to a much lesser extent than petrol equivilants - due to lower combustion temps, etc

To give an example, RPM regularly services a 1.8TD Skoda Octavia taxi which is just shy of 400,000 miles on the first engine Smiley - a Pug Eurotaxi on the same fleet has just hit 350,000 miles too - and i personally had a 406 2.1TD that showed 232,000 on the clocks and still running strong when i sold her on Smiley

Diesels will eat their head gaskets first in 99% of cases - due to the 25:1 + compression ratio

Second hand lump would be your answer then - the VM lump can be found in Jeeps, Range rovers and Rover diesels to name a few
