CD Autochanger

Hello Does anybody have a 6-way, boot-mounted cd-autochanger that works and is surplus to their life requirements? The loading process of mine is erratic: sometimes a disk won't play, sometimes it will, and sometimes it will run distorted, irrespective of whether it is a pre-recorded disk or a CD-R. Ford don't have the replacment now (in any case it was silly money). The only other alternative would be to replace the fascia unit with an alternative that would take single CDs + iPods, but I'm loath to lose the original equipment. IainC

Excellent news - thanks, Ricky. I've now removed the autochanger from the boot. I'm going to blow compressed air into its innards to see if accummulated dust and debris is the problem. I think this is unlikely because once it reads a cd correctly, there are no sound problems - so I doubt that it is the laser lens. I suspect that it is a problem with the feed, or the mechanism that rises/falls to pick the selected cd. It seems to work better laid flat on the boot floor cushioned on towels and bubblewrap, but this is not a permanent solution. I'm in Cumbria so I think post is the better option. I'll get back in touch once I've given it a blowout, and exchange contact details. Thanks hugely again. (how come you have a spare?) Rgds IainC

| One wild guess are the new MP3 CD players. Some prefer the originals only, but e.g. I use MP3 CD's. Will give 10 albums on a CD. In my other car I have a 6CD in-dash changer that plays MP3. Perhaps the best solution is to have a hard disk based system or an Ipod interface of some sort.
