That's about right I think, I've done mine twice at 10,000 miles apart because the owner before got a burst pipe and the 'joe-soap' garage that fixed the problem put cheap auto-fluid oil in that the car didn't like.   I shall be doing mine again in 1500 miles when it gains it's 100,000 mile mark.   My gearbox has improved since, and the oils has stayed clean.

There are also 2 O rings:
6152081 & 6117033

Check the length of the filter bolt as they sometimes need to be shorter or packed out with washers for the later filters.

Thanks for the info,

So I require 1 of each of the O rings you mention?

The car has done 178,000 miles, not sure wether the gearbox is the same from new. Niether can I tell you the last time it had a gearbox oil change.

Oil is a clear brown with no nasty smell, you hear the pump on start up some times and it's gear change is at the wrong speeds and it sometimes cattle grids as you pull away, done the MAF and got my overdrive back and it runs a lot smoother, planning a road trip of about 3 hours, normaly only ever drive it for about 30mins at a time, so hence I want to make sure the box will not fail.

Mr Jones.
You may well find that an autobox repairer or a supplier of  autobox parts could supply the bits at a fair price, worth a look on the internet, the filter bolts are 10mm head, app 7mm shaft,1/4"washers would suffice,or you could cut a bit off the original bolt with a little hacksaw.

Yes.   4000411 is the filter.   6117033 is one 'O' ring.   6152081 is the other 'O' ring.   6941977 is the sump gasket.   Make sure you use the right oil.

The Ebay one has had a footnote for ages that says:
Please note that this kit is currently on backorder from
Ford with no expected release date from ford:
You can still place an order for the kit but please be aware
That there is no guarantied delivery date for this item.

However it doesn’t say that on their main site, but whether it will if you get to the order page I don’t know:

Cheers Tompion,

Ordered parts this morn,
No mention of delay "yet"
payed by Paypal "great stuff"
All for £56 including postage.

Got the oil from local LVW shop £20 per 4.5 lts

Ran the car from Moreton on the Wirral to Blackpool and back, about 2hours there on A roads and 1and a half hours coming back on motorway.
I could here the oil pump for a couple of seconds and a bit of cattle grid effect on start of return journey, other than that ran sweet.

Fingers crossed then.
I’d been thinking off doing mine again, so interested to know if they turn up.

I used a cheap plastic drill powered pump off Ebay to get the oil out of the dipstick hole, you can get a small tube to the bottom of the pan (1/4” - 6mm I think).
Cut the tube at an angle so it doesn’t seal to the pan.
It was a bit touch and go getting it to work, the pump had to be primed and the oil had to be hot with such a weak pump & as there’s likely to be a lot of sludge at the bottom start off with the tube an inch or so off the bottom.
The tube can get snagged where the dipstick tube meets the box, so mark the tube with the length of the dipstick, it should go in another inch or so.

Got flexible tubing I use for the air pump in my fishtank,
My oil in the gearbox feels quite thin so mite try and use the sythone approach,
Just gotta watch I don't get a mouthfull.

Was gonna just loosen the sumpnuts and let it drain slowly into a big tray I have got.
But was wouried it mite go everywere.

Am on holiday from work but not going anywere so have plenty of time to do the job if the parts arrive very soon.

I couldn’t get it to syphon, even upping the size of tube as it left the dipstick hole to reduce drag didn’t help.
I have managed to get some out cold using a vacuum cleaner and a catchment tank (one of Simmo’s brewing syrup buckets Smiley) & I think that would work if the oil was hot.

"Preferred" method might be loosen the sump, or take the lower (?) cooler hose off; someone who's done it may be along presently Grin

You can pump the oil out with an SU petrol pump,it's rather slow but works OK,this of course obviates the big mess.Remember that the torque converter can't be emptied, the early autos had a bung in the converter and a plate under the bell housing, but not so the Scorpio. If you feel really keen you can let the oil pump out through a cooler pipe, then top it up again and have another go,then after you have cleaned the pan out you will have clean oil in the converter.
