Hi can anyone help me locating a n/side drive shaft for my 1998 Ultima estate, 2.3, I have tried all our local breakers yards to no avail. Noise is really bad now & don't wish to drive any more. Are the torx bolts really difficult to remove? Any help would be much appreciated, I live in Cardiff. MNany Thanks, Paul

If its making a regular clonking noise then you probably only need to change one or maybe two of the CV joints. Not too difficult a job. You will need to rotate the driveshaft to get at each of the 6 Torx bolts. CV joints are available from about £20 each new - check on ebay [ search : scorpio cv joint ] I've used s/h CV joints before with no problem - not on the Scorpio but on a Mk2 Granada. Torx bolts can be tight - don't use cheap Torx bits as they will snap off and round out the heads of the bolts...which means you will probably need a hacksaw and a supply of blades. Clean out the recess of any dirt to ensure the Torx bit fits in deep and snugly. Soak them in WD-40 or similar the day before you do the job. On my Sierra I had to use several extension bars and an impact tool to get a couple of them to shift...and I managed to break 3 or 4 Torx bits. Also check for worn wheel bearings while you working in that area.

Dear Scorpio Mike, Thank you so much for all the info on changing drive shaft, your prior knowledge has made me aware of any pitfalls before I undertake the job. I shall treat those bolts with great respect! Many thanks Paul

| I also like to get the bits in place then give them a knock with a hammer just to get them in that bit further... A beautiful assistant on hand to work the handbrake while you are underneath turning the driveshafts is a big help
