Get a handle from a mondeo sunroof to check your sunroof will move easily. Free it up before fitting the motor, mine was a bit stiff untill I removed some of the rust.

Kev, make sure you lubricate the sunroof control cables too and its all running freely.
 
Its probably sticking a bit and that will be the reason the cog stripped in the first place.

Any idea which Mondeo handle fits? Mondeos have been around for nearly 20 years so there must be more than one type I guess?
