Thanks scorpio-mike. Peter, it is the black plastic box to the rear of the heater/air con housing, on the off side, just under the arm for the recirculation motor. Has a black multiplug with 4pins and is connected to the probe on the side of the housing, referred to as the thermistor in some texts. Glyn

Well sorted now. Got one from Britannia Breakers Oldham (they will post parts and 3 months guarantee). Very helpful, he said he had 7 in and never refuses one. They don't just crush them either, they keep them until just the shell is left and then build them for banger racing. Interestingly it was off a '97 and is slightly different in the design of the probe and giving me 2 to 3 deg C lower vent temps than the original.
