i had been getting a poor result from my a/c cooling system from start, after a regas and every thing i could think off, i went back to basics. the handbook says that the relay should be green?, and mine was blue. i spoke to the auto elec at 4rds and after a bit of too an froo, its down to the part No`s mine was 86AG but the update version is 96FG and slightly bigger, now it gets cool a lot quicker , new relay part No 6153497 £6.47

The relay you refer to is the heater blower relay and feeds the deice switch, all it does is switch off the a/c supply when the selector switch on the blower fan is to off. Also pre 03/96 models of build with SATC use this relay, and the SATC system switches it on or off. Later SATC systems directly control the supply without this relay. The Heater Blower Relay is in the glove box. The only other relay is the WOT (Wide Open Throttle), this opens when the PCM detects full pedal and this switches of the a/c, the WOT relay is in the battery Jbox. What yo describe is doubtful, however if the relay was actually making poor contact, the compressor could be flicking on and off and replacing with a new relay has cured it. The colour designates the maximum current capacity of the relay. Pete c

thank you for your reply, but the relay i was speaking about is in the aux fuse box, number r24 air conditioning, and the r28 heater blower motor in the aux fuse box in the glove comparment is yellow. so they are both different colours, in different locations, and different relay numbers itemising different functions, but if i am wrong, i do stand corrected. ianmc
