Splicing! due to heat stroke

Just a question really,
 I've just been reading about splicing in wires on a loom to replace damaged areas of wire caused by the dreaded anti-freeze etc. etc. just want to know if it is possible or wise really to replace, by splicing in, a new peice of wire which goes to the front spark plug on a 2ltr 16v as I can see cracks in the insulation on mine and the conduit it is in is very brittle.  Understand about the necessity for insulation and all that but has anyone attempted this on their motor.

Just In the middle of doing my 24v wiring loom it's a cheaper alternative a new one from ford is £670 plus vat as long as the wire your using is of the same rating there shouldn't be a problem

No no.  this is part of the "fuel cut off loom".  See http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/dohcloom.htm
 
I  have successfully repaired mine by splicing in a new section and covering the lot with heat-shrink insulation.
