Tool Sharing.

Hi All
Just a thought but do any of you guys have any of the special service tools used for rebuilding engines etc. I am just getting some together for a project of mine & it seems they are hard to get hold of. Maybe a tool share community could be set up with a deposit returned when the tool is returned. Somthing like that anyway.

That's the crankshaft seal alignment tool, crankshaft pulley puller and the flywheel locking clamp. The only problem is that they are very heavy (solid steel) so posting them would be a problem. Anyone in Dorset or Somerset could drive over to borrow them however.
I an emergency they could be sent out at cost.

Looks like I have already got them, well a guy has surposeadly got them who I am getting my tools off, except the flywheel locking clamp. Does any one have the list of tools for a BOB cosworth & a MT-75 gearbox. Looks like I have found a guy in Germany who has a warehouse full of goodies he is getting rid of. Only problem is he don't speak much English, so I need part numbers as my German is rubbish.
I would be glad to lend them out if people left a refundable deposit in case they don't come back. Once I have finished my project of course.

I have what you need for the manual transmission MT-75 gearbox but the BOB list is a little differnet as it could work out very big email me off site with details of what you want to do...hmacsnoopy@hotmail.com

I sent you an email.
Basically I have a 3.7 BOB kicking out 280 BHP & 300 lbs of thrust. Rebuilding to get about 350 BHP using Nitrous & other tricks. Getting the engine to hit 7500 RPM so I can try to hit 180+ MPH with a modded MT-75 running 4 wheel drive in a XR4X4.

I used to run a t/technics twin turbo xr4x4. Make sure the gearbox is rebuilt to with stand the extra torque you are gonna throw at it. do you think you will get to 180 mph as the gearing may be too high, however a guy called Martin Hadland got his mondeo to 183 mph! Go for it m8y and keep us informed

I need the high gearing to have a chance. If I could rev to 8000 & increase the nitrous to give me an extra 200 horses (500 BHP) then 204 MPH is possible on paper but that's just a dream really. You are talking lots of money. I think 180 is possible, I could always boost the laugthing gas if I need more than 350 ponies for a one off run just to say I did it.

As has been said, you will need the capacity increase and I would be concerned about the timing chain weaknesses of the 24V (on the BOB) - the BOA might have been a more suitable choice given that it had duplex chains but I guess you purchased the engine as is. Is it one of the Power Engineering ones?

I presume you will have a tuftrided crank and forged conrods This will help it rev and reduce the chances of the engine blowing up!!!!

Yeah this engine was originally rebuilt by Power Engineering. They are very secretive about it so I will not be able to see what they did to it untill I get it out of the car. Also I agree the norm for this is the BOA engine as it is far easier to mess about with & a lot of people don't like the idea of 2 cam chains. However as the BOB is a challenge & this engine has done 110K as a 3.7 with no real problems then I am going to have a go. The BOA had a restricted Plenum chamber which causes probs. over 260 BHP, I am hoping the BOB will be better. Nice car by the way Steve, where in the States are you ( I think I did read you live in the U.S.A in a post). The car this engine was in was flown to the States a few years ago & then flown back a year or 2 later.

Sounds awesome - those PE engines are good and seem reliable (someone else on the site has one fitted to his Scorpio - take loads of pictures during the rebuild and we can add a great article to the site.
I'm in Las Vegas not far from the Speedway where they run Nascar.
By the way, one of my friends has just bought himself a 1999 Shelby Series 1 - unbelievable power!

Hey Admin,
I lived just up I-95 from you in South Reno for a few years (not far by US standards ), we plan on relocating back out to the US, most likely Sacramento area next-time, but that may be a way off yet.
I presume you go to the SEMA show's at the Convetion Centre? I was there in January for the CES show.

Thought you might have got yourself a Lingenfelter motor by now

It's a small world, I was in Vegas in Feb. I will never forget shooting up 1,081 feet on the Big Shot at the Stratosphere. Scary as hell, beats having a front blow out on a RGV250 in the fast lane of the M5 at 105 mph. Wish I could live Vegas, Viva Las Vegas.....awesome.
