Facelift Keys

Just had a couple of new keys made by our local locksmith (only one key with the car and not a Red one!). His electronic box reported the system as PATS3 - SCP which does not have a Red Master Key but just needs two valid keys to code a new one. Took some time as he had problems doing it but adamant it's a PATS3 system - not PATS2 as the handbook!!. Anyone else had this? Regards

Pretty sure something like this has come up before... sounds entirely possible for later cars. They were running production down so if the PATS2 units weren't available you'd get a later version. Guess they weren't going to re-print the handbook at that point either. Cheers, Dave

Thanks Dave Following your reply I've found a thread that says PATS3 after 98 1/4 MY. Mine is from around then so that explains it. There's also a note about a owner's handbook supplement - but I don't have one of these. It'd be nice to have one car where the handbook relates to the actual vehicle , my Probe's the same - late model car, early model handbook!!

Just reading this and wondered if Vulcan had got around to getting a spare key yet. As when i sold him the car it only had 1.It sounds to be not as expensive as previously thought. john.n

£90 for two keys!!! Local Ford dealer wanted £100 for a master (when we though it was PATS2). The £90 was at home so there was an extra £20 for mileage. The guy spent as much time on his mobile putting off the RAC and AA who wanted him for lock-outs etc. Must be a good living although the electronic kit is not cheap. He had to wipe all the keys from the module then reprogram them in but now as have 2 I can do more myself. At one time it had no working keys and he was struggling to get it to accept any new ones .
